GT 500 mod question

Hey all,

I'm new to the site and tried the search function with no luck, so if this has been asked already I apologize.

My question is, when installing CAI and tuning the GT 500 will there be any additional heat issues to worry about. I don't know if I should upgrade the cooling system with this mod.

Thanks.

Thanks. I'm glad to hear that. I was looking forward to saving up for the CAI and tune and didn't want to have to split the money 2 ways.

Very nice Shelby by the way. Black was my second choice after the Vapor. I previously had a black 06 GT. Was beautiful when freshly washed/waxed, but what a pain to keep it clean. Now all I have to worry about is the horrible break dust these wheels collect!

what kind of CAI are you looking at?

Yeah, i used to have a 05 v6 before the gt500. everytime i wash the gt500, its very hard to dry it out especially in the grill area! haha its a pain in the ass but worth it when its all shiny.

I'd really like to get the FRPP CAI and procal tuner. I know the JLT and others may be better but I'd like to keep it all Ford Racing related on this one.

I'm still trying to find the best deal on the FRPP parts and I'd really like to get my hands on the KR axelbacks. I hear good things about them. My GT had the Flowmaster AT series and sounded pretty good to me, but they get alot of bad press from most of the Shelby owners I've heard from.

same, i would it have it installed at the dealers so the warrenty will stay intact.

anyways if you are getting FRPP CAI and tune, then there'll be no problems. the only FRPP i wouldnt get is the lowering springs. the panhard rod would push the rear suspension off center. you would need an adjustable panhard rod or a watt's linkage, sadly i cant find any of them on FRPP site.

Had my FRPP CAI for a year in the GT500

No issues here with the Ford Racing PP CAI. I really like it!

3 Ponies,

Your underhood shot looks amazing! What kind of gains did you notice with the FRPP CAI and what is your overall impression of the kit/tune?

OK It feels better but I don't know how to quantify it!

I am very happy with the CAI and the tune. We had to use the programer again when we changed the gears to 373s. I really like this car and better yet so does the boss..

I am not sure there is anything else I want to do from a performance perspective. New Radiator over flow tanks and wheels are on my list. It runs GUD! I really like the sound with CAI too..

Thanks for the info. I'm also looking only to add the CAI and tune for performance. As far as wheels, I've got a set of Shelby 18x9.5 CS69's in the garage that came off of my 06 GT before I traded up. I'm waiting on the cooler months to get them installed with some better all season tires. I'm really hoping the tire monitor system can be changed over to the other wheels.

By sound with the CAI do you mean louder supercharger whine or just the intake sucking air? I hope it's louder whine, I really dig that sound and wouldn't mind it being louder.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get your pieces parts and about how much were they? I'm also looking to get my hands on the KR exhaust but I'd really like to hear it first.

I have been thinking about the CS69s too. I am leaning toward the Smoked Chrome FR500s with my white vert. 18x9 in the front 18x10 in the back.

Yes by sound I do mean the SC Whine. I have 3 SC cars and love that sound.

I had the Ford Dealer buy everything for me and install it so I had 1 throat to choke with issues. They did a great job. The prices were competitive but not the best I could find. I just shopped the kit prices on the internet.

I had the KR Strut Tower Brace, Drive Shaft Loop, Axle Girdle, intake kit, chrome valve covers and upgrade mufflers all done at the same time so I really don't remember prices.

Good luck. I'd love to see your car with the Shelby Wheels..
