Want a custom driveshaft for your Cobra?
Brent from Driveshaft Specialists out of San Antonio, TX wrote me back saying they could build a performer aluminum driveshaft with new trans yoke and flange for $442. You can refuse the $82 yoke and flange but he needs to have your original ones so he can perform the hi-speed balancing. I orginally asked about my 01 Cobra. I also asked about carbon fiber ones out of curiosity but the jury is still out on that. Check them out.

There is a place local here on Atlantas southside that told me they would build me one. They are supposed to be getting me a price, I will post it once I find out if it is a better deal. Thanks for the lead though.

Depends on what you want to do. Me, I am not a drag racer. I am also not an open track racer. I used to do all that stuff, but not in this convertible. Mine is a mall cruiser. I like the way it handles and rides through the city and highways. If I was a serious drag racer, I would probably swap out the IRS to sn SRA.

OP, are you following the post on SVTP? The FRPP J shaft is supposed to be a direct fit!

When my buddy had his cobra he just bought a SRA driveshaft and changed out the pinion flange and it worked fine.

yeah I wouldn't rock the solid axle idea. A few people I know keep wanting me to do it but I could care less, I don't drag hardcore at least not enough for a solid. Figured at least I know someone who makes a good aluminum axle and it's not made by FRPP since some of their stuff is questionable IMO. Making the Cobra a little lighter for when my Dad tries to run his C6 against me!

guess i am a little backwards... i ditched my alumninum one when the ends wore out and went to a smaller diameter steel one. got to ditch the spacer used to make the cobra shaft work with my SRA. i guess the 1.50 60' times were hard on the aluminum ends on the aluminum shaft.
![]() btw- only gained 1lb in the trasition to the steel one... car feels firmer and has less noise with the steel one.... |
