97 cobra sc losing oil pressure, help??

I have a 97 cobra with a V-1 vortech sc. just recently the engine started losing power and shutting off. the oil pressure will drop to zero. but here is where it really has me, the oil pressure gage will bounce around and then even out at normal but when it does the engine starts a slight knock on the passenger side, then it will drop back to zero and knocking will stop. from everything i know it seems that it should be the other way around...please help

sounds to me like a sparatic/faulty oil pump,does it get hotter temp wise while this is happening?

no but going to replace the oil pump this weekend in hopes that does i t thanks
