Hey, A quick few questions....

Im pretty new to the mustang scene. I Just sold my Monte Carlo and am looking for something with a good power output without me needing to be dropping a lot of $$$ on unneeded mods to get the car to perform how Id like.

I drive anywhere between 10 to 20 miles a day so Im looking for one with a little bit lower milage, something that when (if) i sell in 2 years still has some value. Ive been looking around and trying to figure out the major advantages from going to a Cobra or Mach 1 compared to the cheaper and more common GT. Plus, I have around a 10-12k price cap. Could anyone kinda point me in the direction I should be looking at?

Heres what I did with my monte... I plan on keeping it less "stand out" and more "dont mess with me" with the stang with anything I decide to do.

As far as price goes though, i live in new york and its hard to find a newer cobra or mach 1 for under 12K with low miles. Usually there in the 16-24k range. but idk thats just IMO, good luck hope you find one!!

think its something worth jumping on? I can find others in the area, but by what I can gather, I would want an 03/04 cobra instead of an 99-01. Although I dont FULLY know why yet, thats kinda what I gathered from reading...

You're not going to find a car with less than 50k mi, for $12k. I paid $19k for mine 2 years ago with 2500 miles.

Because the 03/04 cobras have a supercharged 4v 4.6l with a manual 6 speed...

i picked up my 01' cobra with 53,xxx on it bone stock for 7k. but i think i got a little lucky. keep searching my best advice would be to take your time and dont "settle" you will regret it later down the line but as far as a termi goes i dont think your gonna find one with less than 100k on it for 12k,there is one guy on here looking at one that has a salvage title for like 15 or 16k. good luck with the search wich is half the fun to me!!!!

If you could stretch your limit I'd check on this...

This may be the same as the Autotrader ad but here is this:

This is best of both worlds, but probably not what you're looking for. It's in Iowa, but not too far from where the car you posted is. Obviously very modified.

Definine "good" in relevance to power output. Are you looking for a number, a performance spec, or a feeling?

Define "unneeded" when it comes to mods.

Define "perform how you'd like".

Define "little bit lower mileage". Is that under 100k? under 50k? Under 300 miles?

Major advantage of the Mach 1 and Cobra is engine architecture. They're both DOHC, where the GT is SOHC. A random list of other things: '96-'01 Cobras are aluminum block, as are all Mach 1s, whereas the GTs are iron block. All Cobras have forged crankshafts, as do manual-transmission equipped Machs. Cobras have much better brakes than GTs, I believe Mach 1s share the Cobra brakes. All Cobras are manual transmission. '99-04 Cobras have IRS instead of a live axle. '03-'04 Cobras are supercharged, 6-speed, and have fully forged internals.

10-12k will get you into a NICE '96-'98 Cobra and leave you with a couple grand for mods (supercharger and gears if you're into the straight-line thing, nice suspension kit if you're into corners).

You might be able to find a clean '99-01 Cobra for that price, *maybe* a Mach 1 if you look really hard.

Sorry for the very fluid terms... unneeded - I just came from a 3400 engine. In order to keep up with even a grand am, I needed to do things like exhaust, CAI, and headers. I dont want to have to go about throwing a bunch of money (500+) in the next car I get to make me smile when I press the gas.

perform hows I'd like - you know that feeling when you press the gas for the off the line jump and you get pushed back in your seat? Good... cause if you do, thats mainly what Im looking for. Im deciding to go with a newer car (and truthfully its between this or a camaro/firebird with a 5.7) instead of an older mid 70's camaro or early 70's stang because of reliability. I live in the midwest. I know none of the cars Im looking at are good in snow, but, I need something that isnt IMPOSSIBLE to fix if something happens. I was looking at something with a 350 (5.7) in the older styles, but for the money Id like something maybe a little newer.

Lower milage - Im also looking at keeping the car for as little as 2-3 years. I'm needing a car that has less than 50 or 60k on it, so in that time it still has some resale value to it if I decide to go bigger when I go active duty out of college.

I had looked at a range of convertibles, but I decided to try to stay away from them for two reasons.
1) Winter. It gets frickin cold up in Fargo ND (where i go to school) and WI (where Im from). Im up every morning at 4:30 to go and workout with my battalion. 4:30 means a very possible -20/-30*. the more warm my car is for the 20 minute drive... the better. haha

2) security. I plan on throwing some nicer things INSIDE the car... and convertibles are very easy to get into with a pocket knife.

I do like the mustangs, and before I thought "Hey, this is a chance for me to get a GT". Now after Im looking into it, Im kinda seeing that going for the Cobra and possibly Mach is worth the few extra thousand now.

with a 4v $500 is not a lot by a long shot. Are they faster than most other cars in their year/price range. Yes.

93, where you out of? how many miles are on it?

the hard part is that for me to add a few more grand means me takin a loan out. I have the 12k in hand.... so no loan is good for me.
