Why did it blow? I'd look into replacing the soft bushings with the Full Tilt Boogie Racing kit.

Well unless you know How you blew it, you will continue to do it again. If you are keeping IRS, I would suggest bulding it this time. FTB bushings, IRS brace (either billetflow, steeda, or the Fore precision piece). What type of power are you putting down? What type of driving do you do? Stock diff housing and axles are strong if you have the right supporting components.

This sure sounds a lot like what happened to me. Have you been able to pin point what actually broke and put the hole in your cover?

Here is a link to my thread:

Rubber Bushings=Bad (carnage pics)

As far as a new cover, I picked up an OEM from Tousley Ford for what I think is a decent price.

Fore makes a beautifull aftermarket piece you can get from Lethal Performance. But, I have a feeling you will need to take out a second mortgage to get it. Looks pricey.

sounds like yours broke on the side you should have already put a steeda diff brace on.............however if you dont upgrade the crap factory rubber bushings you will just end up with a hole on the other side of the diff cover like RK2000z28 stated.

dont know what your budget is but i would strongly suggest upgrading other parts before swapping gears. hopefully you can afford to do it all at once but if not I would hold off on the gear swap.

Bushings Bushings Bushings. Make sure you atleast get the diff bushing kit from either FTB or MM. Then make sure you add an aftermarket cover, like the one from FORE, or the one available on AM. If those are out of budget, FORE will be I am sure, then go with the BilletFlow or Steeda IRS brace.

+1. the fore cover is nice but from what the OP seems to be using his car for and the power it is making I think a BF or steeda diff brace will be fine as long as he at minimum changes his front and rear diff bushings over to some full tilt boogie racing goodies.

Not sure if it is the same with the IRS, but from what I have heard for the SRA, the Detroit Tru-Trac is a much better unit than the Eaton.

I'm pretty sure that the Eaton unit uses clutch packs much like the stock unit, whereas the Detroit unit uses a gear setup, which is a lot more durable and less susceptible to wear.
