Flowmaster catback for 96 Cobra.. Need some help.

Hi all, as some of you may know I just resovled the problems with my 96 Cobra due to the MAFS not reading right with the FIPK on.. Well now that my car is running in tip top shape again, I'd like to get exhaust again..

I have a few questions:

1. Will this confuse my car's computer in anyway by switching to an aftermarket catback? This will be my third vehicle with a Flowmaster system on it, but since I had problems with the K&N FIPK, I just want to make sure that I won't have problems with the exhaust, too.

2. Also Flowmaster lists four catbacks for my car.

Flowmaster Inc.

Which one is the loudest for my car, and what is the difference between the Force II and the American Thunder?

TIA, guys. I love this site!

Weird that you had problems with the FIPK, I put one on my '98 with no issues whatsoever.

Mufflers/catback should have zero affect on the computer. Computer doesn't care about anything past the last sensor, which is checking the effectiveness of the cats. Mufflers won't change the oxygen content there.

Personally, unless I had the parts laying around, I wouldn't waste my money or time with a catback when I could just go down to my muffler shop and get something welded in. It'll be cheaper, and you support your local guys.

this is true when you say, you have a 6 year old mustang, but when replacing exhaust parts on a car 10 years or older he's most likely going have to get new piping.... my exhaust was pretty much rotted through on my cat back when i changed it sep 07 and it was only 11 years old...... 62k and never driven in rain or winter....

Oh, I actually meant to have new piping put in... whenever I go to the muffler shop to get a catback made, I always go up in diameter .25-.5 inch. For the Bronco, I replaced everything from the cat out with 2.5", and with the magnaflow it came to less than $180 with tax. Of course, it'd be more for dual exhaust, but I know this guy wouldn't charge more than about $300 to do it; most catbacks I see are more like $400, plus whatever shipping you end up paying, plus the time to actually get under the car, break the old rusty nuts loose, and install the new setup.

Man, we've been at odds today, man... what's up? Am I just PMSing of late? hahahaha

Hey thanks guys.. I'm going to get the American Thunder catback, since it is louder than the Force II. I wonder how much of a gain/increase in power I'll have. And I should get the stainless steel one over the aluminum one right? Because the stainless one will have chrome tips?

Only problem with that is most shops do crush bends instead of mandrel bends so their will be more turbulence, won't be a true .25-.5" piping all the way through, and all of that will just be more restrictive.

If you want chrome tips, sure. Though is the non-stainless one aluminum, or is it aluminized steel? I don't see aluminum holding up real well, thought the weight savings would be pretty awesome.

Hey thanks, guys.. I believe that the stock exhaust piping pn my car is 2.25" and the Flowmaster catback is 2.50".. I think this will be sufficient enough if I ever decide to add a KB 2.1L s/c to it in the future. Also the one that I'm going to get comes with chrome tips on it. And I like the way it looks. (kinda like my stock ones now)

Yeah I know they arent chrome, I just polished them up real good and it looks better than what they use to look like.. That's why I'm thinking that some chrome tips would look way better.
