Intake spacer for machs and cobras

Is there any ideal size spacer to use between the upper and lower manifold? I have seen and read a little bit about them and am curious about what height does. I can make one for myself at work and am not sure how thick I should make it.

if i remember correctly anything over 1/4" then will into problems re-bolting your EGR valve back on. Thats only if you still have it. Other then that, longer bolts and gaskets on both sides and thats it.

I have a 3/8th" from Karkraft that i will be installing soon. I have heard that the EGR can be a PITA to put on, but it can be done. I will do a write up when I install it

Paul's High Performance also makes a 3/8s spacer. Roy on the Mach 1 Registry makes bigger ones, but I don't know what modifications are needed at what size.

I am not worried so much about egr issues, its already blocked off on the manifold. I have access to what I need to make the spacer myself so im just wondering what kind of height seems to work out best. With what I have available to me I can go as far as ~1.5 inches thick. What does the spacer thickness do for you?

99+ benefit from it since there intake volume is much smaller than the 96-98 cobras. But by adding plenum volume all you really do is move your peak power higher.

Intake spacers make some pretty good torque for the cost to buy/make them.

I am trying to build a top end heavy 4v 4.6 and I just want to make the proper sized spacer. How big is too big?

I don't know why it would be any differen't even if it does have a bigger intake. More room = more air.

I hit quote on the wrong guy. That was meant for DickH's question. As far as I know, no one makes an intake for your Cobra.

So is it safe to assume that a 1/2inch spacer will be fine to use? What are typical gains from a spacer?

On Machs you typically see just a couple horsepower but an increase of ~10rwtq over peak. The bigger you go the more power you see. I don't know how it would work on the 96-98 Cobras.

I think im going to try to go with a 1/2inch spacer. Why is it I don't really see anything above 3/8? Is it really just egr issues or is there anything else I should watch for?

MMR sells spacers for the 96-98 cobra manifold for 139.

It is mainly an EGR thing I believe. I saw one on SVT that someone made and they had to many problems with the EGR for it to work.
