Prob has been asked/addressed about wheel hop

So Recently got an 03 Cobra. Even stock it hops pretty bad. Got a few mods for it now. Steeda cai, borla stinger catback, and sct tunning. I did a google search on it came up with lot of results. What I would like to know of is there any members specifically with a cobra of similar year that has addressed the issue? And if so what steps did you do? Saw a few forums with a 6 step process and at one point welding in parts too. So again wondering if any members first hand dealt with the issue and what did you do?

lefty, I dont know how you do it. It may be your lack of a social life, or your god sent ways of making stickies relevant to things posted.. but you get reps yet again.

Lefty's social life is simply his girlfriend Jill.

That article that he posted is one of the best written articles I have read on the IRS. Wheel hop can destroy the rear ends of these cars. I have started replacing bushings, getting the IRS brace, and subframe connectors. That has all helped, but I have a long way to go.

you vert guys have it much worse than us coupe guys that's for sure.

coupe springs will help you.
sticky tires (drag radials) are always a good choice.
best of all I would suggest you contact Bruce at full title boogie racing!

without a doubt. I came very close to buying a 10th ann vert new off the lot. Couldnt decide between the black one or silver one and they were gone before I was ready to pull the trigger. If I could I would have an 03/04 cobra vert to go with my coupe but I would just keep the vert tame with minor bolt ons.

To some you are taking away from what makes a Cobra a Cobra. To others, you are getting rid of its achilies heel. I have done 3 IRS swaps in addition to my own. Everyone loved it, improved ET, and never looked back.

I was the only one that did it almost immidiately after purchase. I was the only one that did not have some type of failure. One broke a halfshaft, one had a re occuring wheel bearing issue, and the other had the worst luck: broke a half shaft, fixed it, then broke the diff cover the next time out.

If you are set on keeping the IRS (and that extra 85 lbs that comes with it), make sure to follow the upgrades in the link Lefty posted. And get a set of slicks or DOT slics if you decide to run it at the track.

Honestly prob never will take it to the track. But guess I should still address the issue right?

installing bruce's bushing kit will not only help with wheel hop but it will also make the car handle better and keep your rear diff from doing this (assuming you also upgrade the diff bushings)
