If you go to

w/w/w/.f/o/r/d/p/a/r/t/s/./c/o/m

and do a search by model

You will eventually come up with this

Part Name: Intake Manifold Runner Control Valve Actuator
Manufactured By: Ford

Part Description: 4V 4.6L

Part Number: 9L492

Whether it will fit our vehicles, I have a 96 SVT cobra, is yet to be determined.

You may want to give them a try. I would give them a call and confirm it before I ordered it though. $244.00 is a lot of money for a mistake.

Also, does California plug into the car and check for DTCs now? The smog check used to just be a visual check of the Check Engine light and the tail pipe test. Have they changed that?

I recently picked up a scantool and found a DTC for the IMRC being stuck. That being the reason for my coming across this forum.

BTW, I am new here!!!!

If your check engine light is on, you fail the visual; most shops will download the codes for you (and clear them if they're bogus), but I don't believe it's a requirement to plug in to the OBDII port.

Well, I got the 96 Mustang Cobra smoged yesterday and yes, they did plug the computer into the OBD port.

Fortunately there were no codes. Of course, I had already plugged it into my AutoEngiuity scantool a few days before and cleared any codes.
