IMRC Controller for a '98 Cobra, anyone got one?

My IMRC controller went bad, and I either need a new one, or a Cali smog legal IMRC delete setup.

My understanding is that Ford has discontinued the part, and no one has one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, if I can't get this dealt with, I can't get it to pass smog, and the Cobra goes bye-bye as trade-in on something to carry a kid around in.

Just found this on corral, not sure if it is factual:

If you can, take a picture of the connector on the controller, I can compare it to the one I have.

My understanding is that the controller is Cobra specific, if not 1998 Cobra specific. :/

I'll get a part number...

Check engine light, with codes referencing IMRCs. Mine started throwing a generic, single "IMRC Error", which I could clear and it'd go away for six months. It started getting a little more persistent about a couple months ago, and throwing codes for IMRC stuck open.

If mp331lx's box doesn't work I think I have one from a 97 cobra. I'll check when I get home tonight.

I have heard the Lincoln Mark 8 IMRC was vacuum actuated where the Cobra was not. You probably need a Cobra specific one but I'm not 100% sure.

Also if you want to buy me a nice set of deletes I'll rip mine out and give you mine. 85K and I seafoam mine regularly so it probably hasnt had the same kind of resistance causing stress on the actuator.

I appreciate it Acid, by the plates themselves are fine. It just thows a code that they're not.

It is indeed obsolete and no dealers show to still have one on the shelf.

Dang.

I know the plates are, your actuator/controller is the issue right?

If thats the case then a set of deletes would allow me to pull out my working actuator/controller since I wouldnt need it anymore.

Yeah, I figured that's what you meant about 10 seconds after I posted, hahaha. I'll keep it in mind, man.

The 93-97 mark8's are vacuum operated and have different IMRC's then the cobra. BUT the 98/99 or electronically controlled like the cobra and have the same composte IMRC's that the 98 Cobra has.

do the deletes honestly hurt or help out your performance. Im sure for a track car you would want them but for daily drivers such as mine.

Delete plates will trade some low end torque for some high-end horsepower. I think they make sense on a race car, I'd prefer to keep my IMRCs on my daily, driver, though, as the increase in torque translates to an increase in drivability and fuel economy.

I have a new IMRC, part # F6ZZ-9J559-BB that was leftover from an old project. I am looking to get $150 if you are interested. Thanks, Paul

No need to bump, problem was resolved, if not in the manner of my choosing.

Need IRMC controller for a '97 Cobra

Do you still have the IRMC box for a cobra 96-98 mustang? I'm in LA and trying to get my car to pass smog! I run delete plates, have stock ones, but I'm willing to buy stock plates if they come with the controller.
Please get back to me.
Thank you,
Paul Taylor
