Many have swapped to 03/04 heads and made big gains over the b head combo.

If you are not planning on going with aftermarket cams, keep your 96-98 inatke cams, they have the most duration out of all the stock cams, the exhaust cams are essentially the same.

You will need an intake that fits those heads (99/01 cobra, mach 1, or 03/03 supercharger set up).

Unless you can find a complete 03/04 Cobra blower swap, IMO your better off putting it together with all the later N/A 4v parts and then going with a centri blower like a D1sc or an F1a.

So the major items that you need to set it up:
*03-05 4v heads (03-04 Cobra, mach1, maurader, and aviator all have the same heads, with the 05 aviators bieng the best/latest revision castings)

*03/04 Mach1 intake (best out of the bunch), 01 Cobra intake, post fix 99 cobra intake. Stay away from the pre fix intake unless you plan on having a lot of work done to it

*99-04 mustang 4v (mach or cobra) specific parts:
- Throttle cable and bracket
- Aftermarket fuel rails that fit the 99-04 intakes, must add an ADJ fuel pressure regulator
-CAI/intake tubing

Thats all I can think of right now.

You can keep your valve covers and coil/wires setup.

So the chain cover and whatnot will still bolt up fine? It really is just a head/intake swap and done as far as the motor goes? What are the differences between the mach and cobra manifolds if the mach is better?

Thats pretty much it, H/I swap. The timing covers are specific just because of changes in the accessories and changes over the years.

The intakes are all based on the same casting, but it has improved since its introduction in 99 with revisions in the casting and machining..

The 99s that did not have the "fix" (factory recall to improve poor performance) had a lot of extra casting flash.

The post fix 99 intakes were extrued honed and flowed better.

The 01 Cobra intake as cast flows better then both 99 intakes.

The 03/04 mach intake flows better then all the rest (slightly better then the 01 Cobra).

Nazman had a thread on SVTp that showed how to identify the difference between them all.

The mach inatke is obvios with it missing the cobra symbol on the plenum. But it may be hard to diferentiate the difference between the cobra intakes if you are buying one from someone that did not directly remove it from the car.

How can you tell what year the heads were made in? How do I know for sure if I have 05+ heads?

The part number is the most accurate way, but an easy was to know what year it was cast in is the little circle that is cast into the side of the head near the exhaust ports.

B heads are considered by many to be better heads to use for boost, FYI.

Only for BIG boost. Short of having an 88mm or bigger turbo, or an F2 blower, I'd rather the 03-05 heads.

And even with that much boost/flow, the exhaust side of the B heads still need major work.

I was browsing Modular Fords in the 96-98 section and foind a more comprehensive list:

-coolant crossover modified to accept two temp sensors or modify the 96-98 crossover to work with the new intake

-modified 96-98 fuel rails--relocate the mounting tabs

and of course head, intake, exhaust and valve cover gaskets along with O rings for the crossover and coolant tubes in the back of the passenger head.
Although am like 99% positive you can re use the 96-98 TB. Maybe the opening rate is different and it effects the length of the cable.

yes and no. the work on the exhaust side is easily done and not a whole hell of a lot needed. stock to stock, the c heads are a better all around head.
