is all tuning the same?

hello all. My manager used to own a few import shops. He really knows his stuff, and i think set some records with his tuning capabilites. He realy wants to tune my car with the new TT kit. I let him do a base tune so that the car can sit and idle up to normal operating temp, but he wants to do the full tune. My wife is a little skeptical because he's an import guy, but he has tuned 2 stangs before, one with nitrous and another was supercharged, successfully. He's no dummy, he does know his stuff. Is all tuning the same, regardless of import or domestic?

How would it be different? You're just telling the computer how much fuel to add based on parameters from the sensors, and when to fire the spark plugs.

Only thing I can think of with an import is that you're dealing with a smaller motor, and maybe some more advanced feature (i.e., when to have VTEC kick in, yo).

Yeah there should not be too much more or less involved if you know how to tune an inline 6 you can tune a v8 but the question is does he really know how to tune.
There are many tuners in this world that dont know what the fuck they are doing. Heres a question you can see if level of knowledge.

If he alaways tunes on dyno and only a dyno and doenst street tune he doenst know jack shit simple as that. If has street tuned than he should more than any one who only dyno tunes so more than the average but still doesnt mean he is the best.

yea he street tunes alot of his cars. he dyno tuned when he worked as a dyno tech at a shop. On his personal car, which was a 95 240 with an Sr20, he made 466 hp on TEN pounds of boost. That is rather impressive if u ask me. my supercharged v8 made 460hp on 15lbs...

Engine operation is the same on all gasoline engines. The tuning software will be different, but any competent tuner should be able to tune any car. Just make sure it makes you get a wideband first. If not.... beware!!!
