Tune up ? and IRMC ?
I have a 1996 cobra with some mods but it is time for a tune up. Had a copule of questions. What replacement plugs do you all use? Any advantage going with bosch plus 4's and those type of plugs or should I stick with the stock Motercrafts? Also since I have had the car the IRMC have never been cleaned. I have done a search on here and all ford mustang and have seen posting saying that these should be cleaned and other saying they should just be deleated. Should I just clean these? I found a write up on it and it looks to be a pretty straight foward job just a little time consuming.

im on tha same boat bro, i was gonna clean my upper and lower manifold and imrc this saturday but something came up...well if u want more horspower delete them but tha disadvantage to removing them is loosing some low end torque so its up to u...cant wate to clean up mine they say tha car runs much smoother and feels stronger...

I'm going to clean mine up tongiht after work. Should be a fun time. Figure its a good chance to take a look at the valves. I think I'm going to keep mine becuase it the words of the great Carroll Shelby. Horsepower sales cars but Torque wins races

Alot of people dont stop and think about the deletes in a racing point of view. The losses mean nothing if you are racing. Reason being the losses are in the low rpm range, while you have gains in the upper rpm range. You are not in low rpm when racing, and you dont have to worry about them failing or getting sticky with deletes. I installed a set of mmr deletes on a customers car that is naturally aspirated and it improved in the quarter mile. the only noticeable loss was in cruising around below 3500-3800 rpm which doesnt matter if you are gunning it at the track. The only reason to keep them is if you need all your power below 3500 rpm. A little loss of torque down low will also aid in keeping traction off the line. Power is useless if you cant put it to the ground. Just my two cents worth and the info I have. Not trying to offend anyone.

I have it all part took about a hour and half. Broke a temp sensor on accident. That was my bad when pulling out the coolant hose. Had to buy new gaskets they say they are reusable but there was parts of mine missing the rubber. They ran 80 bucks for the full set. I have one side clean and still need to clean the other side and put it back togather tonight. I should have all the parts. I can tell you they were really really really drity and were the head ports that the butterflys were over. The other ports in the heads were much cleaner I assumet his is because fuel sprays into these ports. I could see how deleteing them would be a good idea. I could see lots of potential for failure int he system and could see it restricting air flow. I'll let you know how she fills tonight/ early twmr am. Hopefully.

Do NOT use the Bosch +4s in your car. NGKs, autolites, motorcrafts, sure. I believe that b-ports want at least platinum plugs.
To clean your ports, use SeaFoam. There's quite a few guides on the site if you do a search. Long story short, suck about 1/3 - 1/2 can of it through the PCV, let it sit for 10-20 minutes, and then do a couple pulls makign sure that you exceed the IMRC opening point (i.e. rev it to at least 4k).

Yeah I have done that before like a year ago and I'm going to do it again once I get it all back togather. When I did it before though the IMRC were not opening hopefully cleaning them up will help that.

I used MSD 8.5mm wires and NGK V-POWER plugs.

With my b-port, I'd do it every other oil change. There's no other way to keep the carbon from building up in the dry ports.

I got it all back togather no big issues. I can tell a big difference. My main recommendation is to make sure you have the gaskets either on hand or in stock at your local store and planing on replacing the seals on the injectors.

Yeah. Just the one metal one by the alt. It shares two polts with the intake or you would not have to. Here is the best right up I found on it and what I used. http://www.svtmustangcobraclub.com/m...C_Cleaning.pdf. Removing it was not bad nor was putting it back togather but it takes lots of time to get them clean. I used a tooth brush to help get them clean and lots of cleaner.
