heart surgery part 2

So if you have read my other thread you know what the symptoms are and why I pulled my motor out ( she is getting heart surgery ). Well I got to taking the rest of her apart and found out some things. I went in thinking that I had either bad rings and/or broken ringlands, well I found out that it was the rings but what i thought was only 2 turned out to be 5. Some of the ring bits were wedged up ontop of each other and caused some marring on the ringland but only on 2. So I will be replacing those 2 and going from there. Enjoy the pics

I think that i may just keep with the current setup and just replace the 2 pistons and then re-ring them.

Easiest way is to just literally break something then try to fix it

yeah, thats a way too. My first car was a honda civic. I went to the junkyard to find a used engine, not to build, to get more familiar with it. I had taken that thing apart about 3x cause each time I would have leftover bolts and parts then I took my pops idea of putting each part as I take it out in ziplock bags and label it so that I know where it went.

going with new pistons now as after looking deeper there is a little wall damage from the shards being pressed against the walls. about 3 cylinders so im gonna have to go another .010 over to put me at .030.

Ouch, I wonder if it was a ring gap issue that caused to the rings to break.... I'm glad to see it wasn't a complete meltdown tho.

Thanks Billy. Ring gap did cross my mind but after taking the crank off and inspecting the main bearings I suspect something else.
