2003-04 Cobra buying tips?

I'm looking into buying a cobra (preferably a 2004). Do any cobra owners out there have any buying tips for me?

I already know to be on the lookout for the head-tick, bad tunes, and evidence of overheating.

Anything else substantial I should look out for?

I would have post this in the 4V / SVT forum or maybe both. I would think the actual owners of cobras would know more about it then new edge owners but thats my .02 cents

lower mileage the better.. mostly make sure you dont buy it from some asshole who looks like they pounded on it.. however if taken care of the 03/04 motor will run great for well over 100k.

Did you buy yours used or new? How long have you had yours? Any problems to date?

Thanks...

How do you like having it as a daily driver? I plan to do the same. I hear the clutch is a lot heavier than the one in my GT. I'm a little concerned about that in this Atlanta traffic...

my termi was my first manual car, been using it as a DD for almost a year now with a spec stage 2+ clutch, in traffic a lot of times. It's no problem for me.

When you guys DD yours, do you have something else for the winter? i too am looking for a cobra but my only concern is winter. Here in cincinnati it gets cold and salty which im not that worried about because i wash my cars everyday so im not worried about it getting rusty but, i am concerned about snow, do you guys drive yours in snow or have something else to drive?

I had to this year, but my area rarely gets snow. I've been thinking about getting a beater though.

If you drive it once in salt you might as well drive it in salt till the day it rusts. When you drive your car in salt the salt gets underneath and in between places that are very difficult to reach. Once in salt it's pretty much going to rust at some point within 5 years. Road salt is nasty stuff, I've heard stories of how people can taste the salt that can get through air vents in your car. You'll need a winter beater or pick up a nice ranger or 4 wheel drive vehicle. They salt the roads to hell here in upstate New York so I have a chevy colorado to drive around during the winter.

I'm not a Blowbra owner, but I will second the beater advice.

I park my lowly GT in the winter (100 miles north of Toronto, Canada), and drive this old thing:

I paid 1200 bucks for it, the 4wd works, it's comfy to drive, and goes through anything.

If you're not in want/need of 4wd, a car can be had even cheaper. Last winter I drove around a 1994 Buick LeSabre I found for 200 bucks. Hard to argue with getting six months of service out of a beater for 200 bucks....

..especially when I take it to the metal scrapyard in the spring and get 200 bucks for it.

Throw a couple sandbags in the trunk if you have to drive in the snow and you'll be fine. That and keep your foot out of the gas.
