Need help with buying new tires..
Ok, I have a 96 cobra and of course you know the stock tire size is 245-45-17. Well I bought some aftermarket wheels and the tires on them are 255-50-17 and they look hideous because they look like they are too oversized for the wheel.. I'm just using them for now being temporary but soon I need to get a different size. Should I go back to a 245-45-17 size tire or a 255-45-17 or 255-40-17 size? I know that the shorter the sidewall the less life the tire will have for tread and the taller the the sidewall the longer life the tire will have for tread. Or am I wrong about this? I'm sure I'll be lowering the car here soon with some eibach springs but if I dont anyways what are ya'll's oppinion? I'm trying to find some tires that I can get at least 50K miles out of but that isnt looking possible. By the way they are 17x9" wide all around, and I bough them thinking that wider would be better.. Am I wrong or right?

tread depth isnt relative to the sidewall height. I would just go back to a stock size tire if it were me.

If you go smaller on the side wall it will look like a 4x4 is that thing lowered? Don't look to be. And I would go 255/45 with a lowering kit if you don't have one.

I have those tires, but there the stock size and they look great. They also come out a bit on the lip because it is designed that way, they made a lip guard.

I was thinking about getting an eibach lowering kit for my car here soon. So 255/45, eh? Hmm.. Think a 255/45 would be too tall for a 1.5" drop? Eibach Pro Kit Springs at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! |

Yeah these tires are okay. The tread life doesn't seem to last too long. Btw my car isn't lowered thanks for the input, guys.
