t56 magnum at the track

Ok, so im going to be getting my block back from the machinest next week and will hopefully have it all assembled by the first week in april. That being said its time to pick out a tranny.

I know all the arguments about the 6speed. Seems like some people like them, others thing its too much shifting. Well, here are my thoughts. I am primarily building this car for street use, and would like to be able to take it on some trips. That being said, i also, would like to puts some 373s or 410s in the rear and i dont want to be cruzing at 65mph with the tach at 3grand. So for me the 6speed seems like a great idea. I also plan on making some trips to the track.

Tremec has a new t56 out, the t56 magnum. It looks like it can handle the power that i will be making, and talking to the guys at D&D Performance it seems like this is the one.

Here is the area that i lack in experience because i have never taken a car to the track before. There are two gear options;

2.66, 1.78, 1.30, 1.00, .80, .63 OR
2.97, 2.10, 1.46, 1.00, .74, .50.

As of right now i am leaning toward the second gear set with 373s in the rear thinking that the taller first gear would be more benificial out of the hole and i wouldnt need 410s in the rear. I also like the .50 overdrive for cruzing. It also looks like the gear ratios are spaced out a bit more (longer between shifts?). It also looked to me like the second gear set was similar to a t5 with the addition of one more overdrive and i always have liked the gear ratios in my tbird, but felt like it needed one more gear for cruzing. (the tbird has 373s in the rear. However, with my power goal of 650rwhp i am not sure if that much gear will be too much. It also seems like with the narrower ratios, i will have less time between shifts.

Any opinions would be great.

come on, no one here has any t56 track experience? Even some insite as to what gear ratios are best in a 5 speed would be helpful!
