Devine, Busher, Weems, Importkiller, This is for you...

I just picked up a 1999 cobra about a month ago (huge difference over my 98 gt) I love my irs on all the missouri backroads but I also go to gateway international raceway about once a month when its warm. Is there anyway to keep the awesome corner-carving smooth ride of the irs without breakin shit? I got FLSFC coming in next week that Im gonna weld in and Ive heard good things about the steeda "stop the hop" pack that comes with the dif brace, bushings, ect. Let me know what you guys think, I read the "termi wheel hope" thread and yall sound like you got a pretty good reign on your ponies.
thanks in advance to everyone for the help

You can build up the IRS for less hop, but you will more than likely have some hop, and they are expensive to build up.

I talked to a guy who had a termi with MM flsfc and the steeda pack and he said his hop on the streets was gone, had a little at the track still..I don't need the sra swap, too much work for something that might only see track times a few times a year...

Bullshit, just ask M.P. Cobra Fan.

His car NEVER sees the track and he is contemplating doing a SRA swap.

Trust me, from having both, you hardly, if ever, notice a difference in ride quality or handling, and the SRA can be had for much cheaper.

The bushing package that fulltiltboogieracing.com sells comes with many satisfied customers. There's a lot of work involved but everyone loves the results. You might want to install a billetflow IRS brace, too. They are solid pieces - I put one on last year.

Good luck with the new cobra.

I've also heard a LOT of good things about the fulltiltboogieracing kit. If I were to get my hands on an IRS (something I'm contemplating for my fox), I'd be giving them a call.

this is the number one place you dont want wheel hop is when you are launching on stickies at high RPM's. Trust me been there and the results were not good. Also you have a 99 which is only a 28 spline where as the 01's and Termi's are 31 spline and their halfshafts have a little more thickness than do the 99's.
As the other have said a SRA is the way you want to go if you plan on doing any track time. I have had an SRA in my car now for years when I tore apart my rear. It is by far cheaper beefing up and SRA than an IRS. Dont get me wrong, IRS's are fine but to get the most out of them you are going to have to spend alot of money to get it to be able to handle some abuse.

Well, I was not going to respond to this thread because my name was not in the title. Then I read this.

If you want to get rid of the hop, you are going to need a lot. FTB bushings are a good place to start. I have the MM bushings, FLSFC, IRS brace, and springs and I get massive hop. You have a 99, so you run more risk of breaking shit than an 01. This is not going to be a cheap venture. Plus you can still break shit.

Weems is right about 1 thing. I am seriously considering doing an SRA swap in my car. I don't road course the car, but I do drive spirited. You can make a SRA handle very well. The IRS when properly built will be superior, but you are going to get a lot of NVR through it.

When switching to an SRA I would recommend welding the axle tubes and getting torque box reinforcements though.

Oh and weems is wrong about 1 thing as well. Ryan, April 18th MCE track day. If I can pick up my new soldier and drive down the 2 hours, the mall cruiser will see the track!

ahh dudes I tell him everyday to do a SRA...but he just doesn't LISTEN! A SRA and IRS can do just the same on a autoX. I think Jazzer is SRA. idk he talks about this Steeda stop the hop...but like M.P said the axles and just aren't strong either. I think the first time to the track he will realize

Uh oh, when were you planning on telling me this?

And I just realized that MCE is next weekend, I might not be able to make it. I went home last weekend, and I am planning on going home tomorrow and there is just no way in hell I can go home 3 weekends in a row.

Oh damn man, don't tell me you are scared!

I have been installing a kit for my friends over the past 2 weeks, and it got me wanting to throw a kit on mine. Yes, it has taken two weeks because it also consisted of a complete stereo redo, sound deadening the entire car, and many many many many changes along the way.

I am looking at a lot of options for my car right now. Not really sure which route I want to go. Why can't I just have $10K to spend on it right now!

Oh, you just need to come out Sunday. Just ride over for the day. Most of the people are only going to be there on Sunday from what I understand.

Fine you guys win I'll do the swap this winter after I bank some $$$. I'm still a college student so it may take a while. Is it true you can sell an IRS for like a grand?
