Steeda TriAx "Chink" Sound

Probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyways. Is there something added to the triax so that it chinks when changing gears, or is it standard?

My father had a Steeda Triax in his Bullitt and again in his Mach 1 and they both made this metal-to-metal sound when he shifted gears.

I'm just curious what causes this. Thanks.

Possibly. It didn't seem to affect performance (of the shifter) so I can't really say. I just know it sounded pretty sweet.

I have a Triax and yes there are adjustable stops, but the other thing is when you install the Triax (not sure about the hurst), you remove the factory noise dampening material etc... in the process so it is inherently louder. If you put the car in neutral you can hear the tranny gears turning too.

I bought my mustang from an old lady who had no idea... maybe a previous owner changed the shifter, or maybe its stock with a different knob. It has a Steeda shift knob, but it makes the "chink" sound when I shift it. Not sure if someone just changed the knob or if they did the whole thing... How can you tell?

+1 you'll be able to tell what it is when you look at where it attaches to the trans..

This is the shifter. The rubber boot was already torn back when I took it apart.. looks like someone was there before.

The handle looks like cast iron and old, so I would guess that its stock?

well it looks stock, but it looks aftermarket by the same rate, cause whoever installed it butched the crap out of your lower shifter boot, and did u see any where on there a shifter manufactureres name on it?

Nope, I didnt see a name on it anywhere.

Its hard to tell with the boot on it, but I didnt want to destroy the only good one there. I did see that it has the studs that come out of the sides of the shifter, but idk the stock ones may have these too.

I was browsing through latemodel restoration site, looking for something with the similar rectangle shaped cast iron shift lever. The only similar looking one I could find was this MAC shifter:

Ok I'll do that today. I need to adjust the adjustable stops anyways. The shifter rattles in 2nd gear unless I hold the handle.

I couldnt take the boot off because it had a ring clip around it. To get to that I would have to take the console out so I could take off the plate that the upper (cut to hell) boot is attached to. The lower boot had a small crack in it so I could test it with a magnet. The lower plate that bolts to the tranny is aluminum, (the magnet would not stick) and as you can see in the pic, the black looking base where the adjusting stop screws are looks like the one at latemodel website. Also I dont believe the stock ones had stop screws. (the handle hitting the stop screws make the CHINK sound)
