Just bought a stock 04 what to do first?

So I just picked up an 04 cobra with 71000 miles that's all stock other than a cold air intake .... I just put tires on it now I'm wanting to build it but first I want to make sure it's definately reliable I've heard of the valve tick problems and you can do something with the drivers head to get the oil flow better but not sure any ideas on what to do first?

the 03/04 Cobra's have pretty stout motors right from factory. i wouldnt worry about frying it any time soon really...especially if its still stock tune/pulley and it was taken care of by the previous owner.

1st mod should be to lower it haha.

All depends on what direction you want to go in with the car. Catback, Midpipe are usually a first, then pully, tune, shifter, blah blah

Also depending on your build date, there are revised heads that are suppose to be "better" than the originals for the cooling issue. If not the Evenflow cooling mod should take care of your worries.

Also, just to be on the save side get a Dyno with AFR readout to make sure it hasn't had a shitty tune put on.

Well the kid that had it before I can tell didn't know how to drive it and didn't know much about the car I'm pretty sure it doesn't have a tune on it but who knows I was thinking at first just to get an sct live wire tuner and a pulley any advice on what size? I've saw the 2.83 I belive how's that do on the life of the supercharger? And I need to get a new heat exchanger looks like he ran up on a curb and kinda mashed it not too bad but I'm gonna replace it soon looking at bbk headers I dunno if I wanna get an offroad xpipe or keep it legal into magnaflows then dumped ... Is there a different like bumper skirt without the tail pipe cutouts in it and a steeda tri ax short throw shifter ... Anyone know of a good Vegas tune place .... Thanks for the feed back

Don't worry about gears just yet.

Depends on what your plans are with the car. Do you want looks first or power?

When I bought my cobra stock I immediately put intake, mid pipe, catback, pulley and a tune, along with a SRA. This turns that car into a completely different animal.

JLT is the shit!!

IMO don't waste your money on headers unless your gonna go big big power, the gain is so minimal it dsnt start to outweigh the negatives(Expensive, hard to install, scrapping)

Like what was said, it all depends on what direction you would like to go with the car. I personally don't see the point of a pulley swap on the stock Eaton, other than its cheap. I'm gonna skip all that and just go for an aftermarket blower and be done with it.

SRA and IRS is personal choice, but you definitely need to make that decision early on in the game.

well u need to plan on a SRA, different suspension setup and catback, so dont buy any of that yet until you do a swap.

Start basic, Intake, Shifter, midpipe, catback if u stay IRS, pulley or pick up a used ported Eaton if ur not power crazy

Yes JLT is good..
No, these car's make enough torque to not worry about having to change the gears. They aren't like GT's. My room mate has 3.73s in his cobra and he is going back to 3.55s. Mine has 3.27s in it and I still run 11.7s @ 120-122.

Uhh, because you can see 30-40 rwhp gains for 100 bucks? I think you are the first cobra owner ever to say "I don't see the point in a pulley swap".

Another thing to remember is if he gets a ported blower he will also have to pick up a MAFia, BAP, and possibly injectors.

thats fine but I raced a Cobra that has exhuast(midpipe and catback) and intake wioth 3:73s and it screamed! I am giving my opinion. 4:10s may be a little much but 3:73s wouldn't be a bad idea. If you can get it to hook

thats true. Aren't 39's(42's on the flow chart) good for about mid 550s to 600?

Get a 40amp BAP if you do

so many options with these cars. personally, i put most all my money in my suspension. makes my ported eaton rather happy at the track. and having a bottom 11, high 10 second car is rather nice as well. just so many different ways to go with these cars....
