make sure your fans are actually coming on. I heard the CCRM (fan control module) actually goes bad. its in your passenger fenderwell. follow your wires that plug into your fan back into your fender. it has a letter like "R" or something on it, and its a box shape module.

You can pay for an all aluminum/bigger steeda radiator, kinda pricey, and it doesn't really help much by itself from the people around here who have done it. Careful with what you buy, because some of those 96' steeda radiators have fitting issues with the 96 cobras even though they say they don't. Quickest and cheapest help as you've said is a thermostat. I'd pick up a 160* one, which ever manufacturer you choose.

About how hot does your car get? I've seen mine get to 216*F, what is the normal operating temp for a 96 Cobra? I heard that there was a tsb for 96 cobras put out to correct this problem but I could never find out what exactly was done to correct this problem?

typically if the temp is fine driving, but goes up at a stop, its a fan issue. Check to make sure your fan is coming on at the right temp and also if it does come on note how much air its drawing through the rad. core. Ive seen many fan motors that were on their way out that still come on but dont draw nearly the amount of air they should. Dont be too quick to condem yours though, it should have 2 fan speeds.
If it doesnt come on check for power and ground at the fan connector when it should be on. |

My car on hot summer days would get excessively hot on the temperature gauge. I took it to Ford for a coolant flush and fill. They flushed it out twice it was that gross. After that I've never had a problem since.

well first off, aluminum blocks kinda like to be alittle warm.. yes an 04 T stat is a cheap and decent cooling mod. make sure to drill a 1/8th i believe size hole to allow air through so it will open.

If you get the right T stat you won't have to drill a hole. the one from ford has a check valve in it so the air will bleed out of the system. but it's about 10x more expensive than you want to pay.
