Upgrading Internals

As stated in earlier threads, had an oil pump failure, followed by a knock in the bottom end. So...In process of pulling to motor, and have decided to do a full rebuild. I am running a vortech V2 previously Set at 9psi. I know for sure the motor is running ModMox Rods, not sure on the pistons. Would i be safe going with a comlete rotating assembly kit from ModMax.com? If so would i be best to go with the racing or street set up?

I have no intentions of adjusting the boost, but want the motor built stong. Is there any point in doing cams? i would rather not drop an extra grand on doing them, but if the gains are worth it, now is the time.

Any imput would be appreciated.

what are your future plans for the car? I say spend the extra money and stroke it. there is no replacement for displacement. and then you could safely run the stock cams, 9 psi, and everything else you previously had, and still make more HP.

Being as heavy as a sn95 body is, I would not recommend the race kit. the car would have to be reved to 4000 RPM every time that you want to leave a stoplight, unless you like ULTRA DOUCHE MODE. the Race kit doesnt have the rotating mass to those slow rolling take offs at stoplights, hence race. however the street kit does yet you won't hit 8000 RPM at the track as fast.

your choice: Streetability or Horsepower

i know cams are expensive, but i wish i had put them in when i did that. im 90 percent sure u cant do the cams with the engine in the car. , my tuner says cams are where u get your big power. id do the cams. when you stroke ur car, u loose some rpm.

Have been looking at the stoker kits, and i am pretty sure i will go that route, and leave the cams alone. I am also planning on putting in bigger valves while i have it a part. If those are the two biggest changes, will i need to go in for another tune?

Also, kinda a seperate subject from this thread, but im going to drop the tranny, any advice on preventive maintanece i should do while it is out. Has about 100k on it.

Thanks for your help!!

If I had to pick between a stroker kit or cams I'd go with the stroker kit on a FI everytime. The stock cams, doesn't matter what year 96-10 4V, do good work for FI applications. N/A is a different story. You will definitely need to get a tune if you up the boost. Which you should that's the whole reason behind upgrading the rotating assembly right?

Is your tranny auto or stick? You could always replace the clutch and flywheel if you drive a stick. Of course change your fluids.
