Broke a dang lug stud

Anyone wanna point me in the direction of how to replace one? This is something I've never done before.

And i heard a good way to replace them is to push it through then put a bearing of some type on the front then a lug nut and tighten it until it comes all the way through.. Sorry my friend told me how to do it and it was awhile ago lol..

I looked around but haven't found anything real detailed. Basically a few people just saying hammer it out and pull the new one back in.

I haven't had time to pull the wheel off and take a look, but I'm just concerned on what is back there that may get in the way.

And also, what the best way to install the new one is. I very much doubt it's just "pull it through". Nothings that easy.

that is correct on how to install it...however if you want to do it the hard way, take off the hub or axle and use a press to press it in. you can do it just as easy with a hammer and a lug nut just make sure that the stud seats all the way before you torque it.

I've never replaced one on the Mustang but I have replaced one on my wife's 02 Cavalier and one on my brother-inlaws 04 Cavalier. It really was almost that simple. It only took me about 20 minutes.

1) Take wheel off
2) Rotate hub so the back of the broken stud isn't blocked (usually there's at least 1 location)
3) Hit stud with hammer and force out. The studs have splines near the head and are held in w/ interferance fit.
4) Put the new stud through the back, place 4 or 5 washers on the front side, and thread on a nut. I use washers as a spacer so the nut doesn't "bottom out" of threads.
5) Tighten until it sucks the stud completely into place.

Thanks. Think I'll try this just as soon as the lug comes in.

i'd think you could take it out like a carb stud as well if its threaded in there. idk, but put a nut that will fit on there, then put the log on top of it, then tighten the lug and loosen the nut at the same time till they are fighting over a thread. then put your breaker bar on there and loosen it and it should take the stud with it. But just an idea.

The wheel stud is NOT threaded in. It has splines near the head that and it's press fitted in. This is why you can take a hammer and hit it out.

Thats the exact same thing i said but use a bearing instead of the washers lol

Wednesday night. Was checking all the lugs to make sure they were torqued down to proper specs, and this one just snapped. Real weird. It was a bit loose, and Jesse seems to think it was from being driven around without being at the proper torque. I really don't know, honestly.

They had a couple in stock at Stevens, so I'll probably put it on sometime this weekend when I get back from the lake.

Right on. I'm due out tonight and as long as I get back out of tulsa sometime tomorrow I'll have 48 hours off when I get back. The alternator in the neon needs replaced so I'll be working on that if you want to swing by and we can fix it.
