transmission advice
well..........the 2nd day i had my car back from the dyno i bent the input shaft in my stock transmission. now it whines like crazy. I've been checking out prices for transmissions that can hold the power i make. Everyone that knows anything seems to strongly suggest that i go with an automatic. I guess im kinda picky but i feel that i might regret getting an automatic cause it will be less fun.
it seems that i have like 3 choices that will hold up to what i need. Either a built 4r70w, or the magnum t56 or viper-spec t56. all the transmissions will end up costing me about $6,000 to get it into my car. i wanna enjoy my car and have fun, but i also want it to last. Id take the 6spd but a few pple said when driving the car hard the amount of shock that hits the transmission is astronomical. so, whats everyone think?

Built TKO 600 will hold it as well. They are pushing more than you have thru the 600 all day long without fail. So if you want to keep to a 5 speed that's the way to go. Promotion powertrain has a "tactical nuke" tko 600 that holds 750+ and 7k rpm+ shifts for $3000. Or you can get a TKO 600 for $2200. Just another way to go if you are interested. Much better than switching to auto or a 6 speed

I'm of the mind that putting an automatic in a Cobra is sacrilege. Were it my car, I'd go with the T56.

A promotion powertrain pmp 3650 will hold that power for about 2400 bucks.

I hate how my TKO 500 shifts. Does that even out later on? It has like 100 miles on it... Really stiff especially at high RPM. Also good work asking first. I just went out and bought one then found out if I gave up a few hundred more bucks I could have had bomb shelter TKO for a transmission instead of a stock one.

the built t45 will handle the power as well. i am running one and hoping to get close to your numbers as well when the car is finshed. it would be a direct swap, handle the power, and would highly suggest getting the 26 spline input and a clutch for your set up.

well i spoke with D&D, astro performance, MMR, Pa performance, Promotion powertrain. Promotion told me that their built t45 is good for 700hp. they cryo treat the gears and use carbon fiber synchros. also it has a 26 spline input shaft. well when i spoke with D&D, he told me that he knows of the rebuilt t45, but that the stock t45 is only rated for 350tq, and when you cryotreat the gears that u only get 15%more strength MAX. well if u do the math, 15% isnt 700hp. he stated that tremec wont back up their gears. He suggested an automatic over his t56 magnum, and he doensn't even sell automatics. so i dunno. i wanna do it right the first time. promotion swears that their t45 will hold up. i asked about the tko600, but its rated to 600tq. i make 690rwhp and 600rwtq, but i make an estimated 840crank and i dunno what torque. so thats overrating a tko600.

i dont think that the gears are the weak point of the t45 tranny tho..clutch disengagement and not sitting on the shifter should make it last. but nothing will outlast a well built automatic if you are going to beat the hell out of it every day.

the gears arent the weak point of the t45. the input shaft, shift forks, and shift keys are. when spining high rpm's the stock syncro's arent going to keep up either. the tko ratings are conservative, and have heard of the tko's breaking the mounts off the floor during testing as well.

You are not gonna break a tko500/600 or a PMP built t45 with your setup. Matherly is running low 9's on a PMP tranny soooo I think you will be ok.

Steeda.
Also, for those of you with power worries this is the only one I'd consider once the TKO goes: LIBERTYS LSC5000 TRANSMISSION (For the record as much as mine is still breaking in I believe - I've read and heard from a lot of people that their transmissions are underrated by quite a bit. It's probably going to be hard to kill one.) You really can't beat a Liberty. You're still a manual but you'll run with the automatics all day long. Plus it is hell of a lot of fun. The clutchless would even be cooler but goodbye street use. If you let off the throttle it automatically pops into neutral. Hope the grocery store is 1320 feet away with no traffic, red lights, or stop signs.
