*Updated*Hydroboost/Brake problem. Pedal travels to floor and stays!

We just replaced the hydrobooster on my sons 96 cobra because it was leaking power steering fluid. After getting the new hydrobooster in and replacing two of the lines from booster to pump and booster to gear box the hydrobooster was bled per the instructions it came with.

The brake pedal has no resistance what so ever, with or without the car running. When the car is running the brake pedal will travel all the way to the floor and stick, you must pull it back up manually. Without the car running the brake pedal travels all the way to the floor and comes back up on its own. Either way it has no brakes whatsoever.

No lines were ever disconnected from the master cylinder. The only bolts that were taken off the master cylinder were the two holding the master cylinder to the booster.

Is the booster defective? Was the rod suppose to be adjusted (can it even be adjusted)? Is this some other problem? Help! We are terribly frustrated with this car.

**********We now know what is wrong with the booster. The rod that goes between the booster and master cylinder is missing! Never even came with the damn booster!

So next question is, is there a compatible booster/rod that can be used on this booster from another type vehicle??

Yes, all the pedal does is push right to the floor and comes back up over and over....no resistance at all.

We'll try and bleed it again this weekend when my husband is off unless we can get to it sooner.

Thanks for the ideas. :0)

Is there any fluid leaking underneath the vehicle? I kinda feel like if you keep pushing it and its not building up its going somewhere.

(dont take this the wrong way) is it connected to where it belongs? Everything hooked up right?

No leaks. It's all connected the way it's suppose to be.

I guess I should add also that the power steering works fine.

I'm not a brake expert, but my understanding is that the brakes should work even without a functioning hydroboost, but they will require a ton more effort. I would bleed the brake system as well, starting at the ports on the master.

Bled again and nothing. Took it to a nearby mechanic and he said the rod isn't connected on the inside so it isn't allowing the output rod to engage the master cylinder (something to that effect). Said it was either a manufacturer defect or came loose when installing.

Is this fixable or will we have to wait another week and a half for another booster?
