coolant temps arent chosen by their "sweet spot" on normal cars.the temps are chosen for emissions purpose, all around use for normal driver, heat availability for winter, etc. the purpose of the head cooling mod isnt for over heat, but to evenly cool the entire top end best possible. this is a supporting mod for those making a lot of power, etc. very few vehicles are designed around the performance aspect of any vehicle. if ford or any other manufacture paid so much attention to cooling aspect etc, then manufactures would already do what the aftermarket takes care of.

i agree with you about the head cooling mod but the overheating problem that someone was talking about wont be cured by a thermostat or wetter water, and yes the factory thermostat temp is chosen for emissions purposes which is also a sweet spot for engine efficiency, an engine in peak efficiency is an engine in peak power.

the factory stat is NOT the sweet spot for engine efficientcy. if it was peak efficientcy, then there would be no power to be had if the motor was to run any cooler.

could you maybe take another stab at explaining that, i didn't quite understand what you were trying to get across. ( its worded kinda funny) i do like this discussion though, its the reason this forum exists.

the warmer you can keep a motor, the easier it is to pass emissions and keep people from freezing in the winter. on the other hadn; if you can cool the engine down, everything gets cooler including the air charge into the cylinder heads and cylinders themselves. doing that, you can get a little more aggressive with the tune etc. wish i could explain more, but got to get back to work.

I bought an 99 ex-bondourant mustang cobra, and they have upgraded the cooling system by putting on a water pump from one of the ford trucks along with the clutch fan and ran a 3/8 hose off the crossover pipe to a "T" splicing into the overflow container. I installed an additional head cooling mod using another coolant tube (thats on the back of the passenger side head) i bought another on from ford, $52, it will lean out to the out side instead of staight up but its not a problem. then ran a 3/4" heater hose an spliced into the return hose going into the radiator. I had to make a small alluminum peice to splice the 3/4" hose into the 1 1/2" return hose. nice and cool, and these heads were also know to overheat #7 and #8 cyl. because the coolant just lays there in the drivers head....

Hold the heckles from the haters, I know this thread has been dead, but I have to ask, will the head cooling mod be beneficial at all on my 2001 Cobra with 95K miles? I have a pretty loud tick coming from the heads and im looking for a way to quiet it down a little, thanks!

saw that someone mentioned evans coolant. a guy on lincolns of distiction was having heatng problems in traffic w/ac on he spent over 300.00 to clean/flush his system to swap over it only dropped his temps 10 degrees. he ended up adding a pair of fans in front of his intercooler that switch on w/ac(has vortech supercharger)

This kit was designed to prevent the tick, if you actually have the guide tick your purdy much screwed. Im guessing if its a near stock 01 cobra you have a different problem.
