alright guys so I've seen all this talk on many different forums about people trying to find an aftermarket speakers to direct fit into the pods in the front doors for the 2.5 inch speakers. i searched and searched just like everyone else and came up with nothing other than "making bigger speakers fit" and many people don't wanna go through that hassle and neither did I. Okay so being that i am a mobile electronics certified professional i have some added resources, and that helped me find the solution. i located quality aftermarket speakers that are actually made for BMWs.... yes BMWs. oddly enough they also use a 2.5 inch speaker in their cars. so i bought a pair of them for shits and giggles just to see if they would fit in the doors pods.they turned out to be a perfect fit. but now there is one very small catch ... BMW does not hold these speakers in with screws. they are glued in place. but conveniently the company that makes these speakers supplies you with a tube of glue as well to glue them in place. The install is simple just take the old speakers out glue the new ones in place and cut the connector off the new speaker and splice into the cars speaker and your done. i just finished putting them into my Cobra and they sounds awesome. here is. the link to speakers i bought
