Mark VIII engine question

So I dropped the 460 82 fox build to stuff a 95 mark VIII 4.6 in it instead. I'm trying to figure what gears to run right now. I'll be using the 4R70w that came with the markVIII. My question is, On a stock 4.6 dohc what rpm do they stop making power? The engine is going to be stock for a while w/only full exhaust.

Thanks.

Peak power usually arrives at 5500RPM and peak torque at around 4800RPM. You really have to spin these suckers. Run a 4.10 gear minimum. Are you going to be running the Mark VIII computer?

you get the most power out of the B heads revving the piss out of them, the problem in the Mark VIII's are the cams. they arent as aggressive as the 96-98 Cobra's and i believe will make the most power down a little lower. i know my Mark VIII motor untuned in my car does make GREAT power from 3000rpm up until redline (6000rpm) when i ahve my car dyno'd (hopefully by the spring) i will post the graphs.

Yeah, when I did my Mark VIII swap in my 96, same thing. Sucker comes alive above 3K RPM. My 3.27 gears and lack of IMRC's really killed the low end torque.

My sister has a 96 Mark VIII with functioning IMRC's and it has plenty of power below 3K, even with the 3.08 gears.

Its going to be as stock as stock can be minus LT headers. I'll be running the mark ecu and harness, well both ecu's. I was trying to decide between 4.10's and 4.30 gears. Leaning more toward the 4.10s now. Then Spraying 100shot of nitrous. The engine has 90k on it.

yes sir, i agree. it feels about the same as my 2v down lower in the rpm's. when i have it tuned im gonna have a bit of timing added (just a few degrees so i can still be Nitrous-Safe) to help with the lack of IMRC's and then the 4.10 gears should help out alot with that too. looking back on it, i'm thinking i maybe should have looked around a bit more for a set of 4.30 gears because i am having the redline moved up to 7,000 rpm on this motor.

4.10's are good. One guy with a 96 Mark VIII LSC got into 13's with just a 4.10 gear. Great that you are running the Mark VIII ECU, you will be able to keep the IMRC's.

Nice! I would get a Mach 1 or a Cobra Harmonic balancer for spinning that high, but the motor should do it.

Stock block can take a 100 shot just fine.
