Hi all. I've been coming to this website for probably 2 years now but I don't think I've ever posted. Basically every question I've had about my '97 Cobra 'vert has been answered in other members' posts. Haven't had any problems (fortunately), but I do have a question that has me stumped.

My Cobra (I know I know, I will post pics sometime soon), from what I was told by the dealer where I bought it, is all stock except for the CAI. I've read in multiple places that in first gear the max speed is 45 mph. However, I am able to go up to 60 mph in first. I have tried several different gear calculators and they all tell me I have the stock 3.27 rear end (more or less, I haven't seen any higher than 3.33 as the "average estimation"). Is the info about 45 mph top speed in first gear false or do I have a different rear end gear?

Either way 4.30's are going in in the future, but it would be nice to know what I have as of right now.

Hi and welcome! I'm like you and don't post a whole lot because search works most of the time. I usually only reply if I can make a valid contribution.

What size rear tires do you have? I went to the corral.net gear calculator and plugged in 6800 rpm, 60 mph, T45 1st gear and stock tire size of 245/45/17 and it comes back with a ratio of 2.57. That same calculator says a 3.27 ratio with stock size tires at 6800 rpm works out to 47 mph. In my 99 Cobra, 1st tops out at about 45 and second will take me to about 75.
