supercharger ?'s for 1997 Cobra

Hey!

I am interested in a supercharger for my 1997 Mustang Cobra.

It is currently running forged internals with 10.4:1 compression, B heads, CompCams 106160's, and Kooks SS long tube headers with a SCT Xcal2 tune. I know I will need to rebuild the shortblock with lower compression pistons.

I would like a centrifugal supercharger that is quiet at idle. I know of the Vortech SQ and the Procharger D1SC. Are there any other options?

What is the horsepower potential with boost appropriate pistons and 92 octane pump gas for a 4.6 4v?

A centri blower would be perfect for your shortblock. With 93 octane you could probably run 10 to 14 pounds before risking detonation.

arnt centri loud at idle? and the twin screws are the quiet ones at idle?

i think that vortech will be perfect for what you are after. centri blowers tend to 'whistle' a bit at idle where as a roots is silent until you rev it up. B head 4v's were made for a centri blower so good choice on that.

the sound of any supercharger is badass, a 05 gt around here were i live has a centri and at idle it sounds badass, but it wont beat the sound of my whipple

the v3 vortech is silent. i ran 15psi with 8.5:1 compression. u can prollly run 8-9 lbs with ur current setup. u just need a GOOD tuner to help u out with it.

I would go with a procharger P1SC with a 3 core intercooler, i ran that with mine and i put down 456rwhp with 8lbs of boost, i had stock internals though

Prochargers have a whistle at idle. The sound fantastic, I loved the sound of my 2000 GT just sitting at a stop light.

Procharger are loud...they do have an option for helical gears to quiet them down. The Vortech SQ (super Quiet) is also quiet. I know a guy with 96 Cobra with a SQ and you CANT hear it at idle. The PD blowers(positive displacement) are quiet and idle with a bigger pulley but are louder with rpms. The smaller the pulley on a PD blower you can hear a bit more if listening.

You can also look at Paxton Novi blowers...they are Centri's as well.

Turbos are the quieted idleing form of boost.

i dont know y u would want a quiet supercharger, some get tired of the noise but i dont see me gettting tired of it anytime soon. but, i guess everyobody is differnt

Centri's power lives in the upper rpm's. Go PD for instant boost.
