Who has gone from a S197 to an 03/04

Has any one gone from an 05-09 Mustang GT to an 03/04 cobra? I have an 06 Mustang GT with minor bolt-ons. I love the car but I have a soft spot in my heart for the 03/04 cobra. I am just wondering if anyone here has done this swap.

There is a guy on my local forum that traded in his stock (05 I believe) for a pullied, solid axle Sonic Blue 03 and, all though I don't know him personally, the last time he posted about it he loved it and had no regrets about it at all.

But I can't speek from experiance. I know the 03-04 platform is more primative than the S197 so expect more squeeks and rattles.

It's a hard decision as both have their pros and cons. The wife would be upset because I already spent about $2000 parts and labor on my car for minor bolt ons.

Keep fixing up your car! The longer you have it, the better it gets~!

I think I will just keep my car. The wife even said she will help with the payments so I can pay it off in 6mths. While I was deployed, she used some of my combat pay to help pay for her car, so she is returning the favor.

I agree with your decision, your car already has too much work into it to trade in, plus it is very sexy! Good choice on keeping it

Exactly, that was a while ago that i wanted to do the trade but thought about it logically.. I owe 1700$ left on my 06 GT, why would i want to take another loan out? So i went and bought a Precision SC6165 turbo and am slowly piecing together a turbo kit =).

I drove my buddy's 04 GT, and it was not fun. It felt loose, disconnected...like I got no feedback from the car at all...the shifter had so much slop that I had to second guess all my gear changes. I beat the hell out of my car, drag race it, powershift, corner way too fast, and I always know when it wants to get upset. Keep your S-197.

That is what I was thinking. I got them both, not a cobra, but both body styles and I honestly love driving both of them. I say to the OP keep the GT you got and supercharge it, but in the end do what makes you happy.

I could supercharge mine but I would have to get a new clutch and replace my UDP also my car has 85,000 miles. Another option would be to looked for an S197 already supercharged. I have seen a few on various forums and they usually avg 18-25K.

Let me just say the 03/04 cobra is incredibly tight and well built especially the coupe version vs the 99-04 'non cobra' stangs. Add a Kenny Brown ladder type subframe connector for a few hundred bucks and it is better balanced than a 05-09 IMHO.
