Starting to collect parts and planning for engine overhaul and temporary build

Ok so as soon as a see a snowflake i am gonna start ripping the 140000 mile 4 valve out of my cobra. It needs the valve seals replaced and i know the heads can stay on the car for it but i need a winter project too. I want to disassemble, inspect, re ring, do the appropriate head work, possibly find a set of affordable used N/A cams that are in good shape, and maybe a set of flat top pistons. I want to go blown eventually but its not gonna be in the cards for a while and im not sure exactly what i want to do so for now id like to pick up a few horses and refresh this motor. Anyone have any suggestions about other stuff i should do while im in there?

i would just send the heads away to have them fully rebuilt and ported. i paid 2300 for full rebuild and a raceport. prolly the best money i spent. high end pull was great. only regret i didnt do was cams. possinbly port the lower intake?

get an mmr oversize valves, bronze valve guides, and Beryllium Copper valve seats.

If you have an oven, you can do alot of the hard work yourself. Heat to 400-500 and use a properly sized punch to remove the guides. The reverse is about the same, except it helps to use some N_2 to cool the guides down. They slip into place.

Seats and valves will have to be installed by a shop. Make sure they use sunnen machines.

Then blend the seats into the runner yourself.

An easy 20-30rwhp

ill be doing the headwork at school, we are only allowed to do "repair" work and cant do any porting, i can do the guides, seals, seats, springs, and retainers. Then i figured i would do a mild porting on the heads and port match the exhaust port to my longtubes. Porting the lower intake sounds like it would probably be a worthwhile mod. How about throuttle body and upper intake porting?

Tb porting isn't really worth it unless you have a kennebell or whipple.

head work (not porting) is easy hp
porting is a wee bit harder especially if you have never done it before; very easy to go overboard

ok so skip the throttle body porting. Im going to have a local machine shop do the porting on the heads and the lower intake, so i have someone to blame if things go bad.
