when is it to many miles to mod

im going to be modding my car this winter im planing on cams because a family member is going to buy them for me but i much rather have a blower but how many miles is to many to do any type of performance work to the motor. i have seen people bolt on a blower at 100k and more with no problems but im planing on racing the car if i get a blower i dont plan on going over 5psi of boost. i have 86k on my motor there not hard miles at all the motor is well taken care of i have only raced this car twice at two events. im just scared that i will blow the hell out of my engine. let me know what you guys think because if i want a blower then my aunt will buy it for me and not buy the cams. if any one wants to know my aunt is my godmother only reason shes going to buy me anythin

if its well taken care of, dont worry about it as long you do supporting mods. i have tore couple mods down with a lot of miles, and they show absolutely no wear.

The key with mod motors, hell any engine, is to wait until it is fully warm until ANY spirited driving; especially if you have a blower. Aluminum is very sensitive to heat because it's coefficient of expansion is even more than iron, so the bearing clearances are VERY tight in a cold aluminum engine.

He's getting the cams free and does his own labor. What kind of cams are they? N/A or blower cams?

If your worried about engine miles then you might as well put a blower on cause nitrous won't be too healthy either.

It's really hard to make out the condition of a motor based on just mileage. My GT with 30K miles was more beat up than my Cobra with 57K miles based on the fact that I punished that GT daily with Nitrous. Do a compression test and upgrade with supporting mods if you don't want to build that motor. Plus with 5 PSI is like blowing air into it with your mouth, you should be fine.

If you just want to stay N/A, then some cams are a good choice along with full exhaust and a heck of a tune.

IMO engines can withstand a good amount of abuse, as long as their well maintained. My Bullitt has 190,000km on it, and I have a KB 2.1 on mine, I only run 10 pounds and she makes great numbers. I put the KB on my car with 170,000km on it. She runs like a dream... I don't pound the hell out of the car, but I run her when I feel the need.
skip the cams and go with a blower...
Here's how mine sounds
