Just using a conventional oil with no additive. I'm at 50 miles and am going to change it tomorrow, anything special I should be using? The autozone here has royal purple break-in oil but its like 10 a qt

that's great. Conventional oil is perfect. I have used some zinc additives in the past on rebuilt engines...but long term I saw no advantage over just regular oil. I do use Royal Purple in my engines. yea, it's expensive but a lack of problems for me over the years speaks for itself. I also like Royal Purple's water wetter to drop the water temp too in my cars.

Using Royal Purple in my BBC Blown boat engines drops my oil temp 20 degrees over conventional motor oil - which normally run anywhere from 190 to 220 degrees (oil temp). The engines run stone cold (100 to 115) because they're fresh water cooled.

just drove the car for the first time last night since last weeks posts. Changed the oil last night, then took it out and let it get to temp. After that made 7-8 good pulls on it taking it up to about 6k in different gears giving it anywhere from 3-6lbs of boost. Does this sound suffiecient. I dont think it is smoking at all, but my dipstick tube isnt in all the way so it is leaking abit of oil and still has the buring oil smell. It is at the local dealership today getting the dipstick tube fixed. Easiest part of the new motor and yes i took it to the dealership. figured it was worth the hr or so of labor not to have to mess with it.

going to drive it another 400 miles or so then worry about the tune redone. Hoping to be at 450+. Now if i can just figure out how to keep the ass end on the ground...
