resevior under shifter?

A while back I replaced the stock shifter with an MGW(awesome shifter by the way). My question is, the resevior that the shifter gets bolted into looked almost as if it had very little fluid in it. When I replaced the shifter on my GT it was almost full. Common sense tells me that I need to put fluid in that resevior but cannot find anywhere on how much fluid or if that is even where it gets filled or what type of fluid goes there. My guess would be ATF but am not sure. My shifter doesnt want to go into gear very easily( especially reverse) So I'm kinda hurtin for an answer.

The only stupid question is the one not asked(in most cases)

What you're looking at is your tranny fluid. There's not a separate reservoir for the shifter.

If you're having difficulty shifting, check the fluid level, or maybe replace it with something different. I know T45s love GM synchromesh, but I'm not sure if T56s are the same.

Either way, there's two plugs on the side of the transmission, one high and one low. The low one is the drain, the high one is the fill. Fluid should be up to the bottom of the fill hole (idea is you pump it in until it flows out).

It's usually a lot easier to fill the tranny from the shifter hole than it is to fill it via the fill plug.
