idler pulley
I have a 2003 Mach1 and I am switching out the idler pulley. I bought one at kragens by Gates model number 38001, which is what the computer tells me is the right one but it is bigger than the old one that is on there now. Not sure if the old one is the original, I got the car used. Can anyone tell me the size of the pulley for the Mach1? Also if the one that I have is the correct one, it is smooth 90mm.
Thanks,

If it's just an idler don't worry about the size as long as the belt fits

I beg to differ, but if it's too big, there won't be enough clearance between it and the tensioner pulley underneath it! I assume you're talking about the pulley labeled #9 in the diagram below? That Gates part number is not correct for your car, but your original 90mm is the correct size. Just for future reference, the smooth idler #9, the ribbed idler #8, and the tensioner pulley #7, are all 90mm pulleys.

You are correct, that is the one I am talking about. You are also correct in that it left no room between that one and the tensioner pulley. I went back to Kragen auto parts and showed them the one off my car and the one they gave me. They could not get anything different, the part number 38001 kept coming out for the 4.6 DOHC. After a long search and almost about to quit he decides to look at a 2002 4.6 SOHC pulley and BAM! its the exact size of the one I needed. Part number 38006. Its weird that it would not come out for the Mach but comes out as it being for the GT. Weird but it works and the car is running great now. Thanks for the replys, if anyone can explain this to me I cant figure it out why the part number would be wrong.
