03 cobra tranny slipping

After weeks of not knowing why my cobra is going nowhere under hard throttle (not to mention just about every retard under the sun giving me what turned out to be BULLSHIT reasons for it, like a slipping clutch or bad plugs) I realize its the tranny. It shifts fine and strong but pedal to the metal in any gear...the reves dance, the blower spins up and the engine fires but the car goea nowhere. Understandably I cant even begin to work this out with jack stands (the first person who tells me I can fix thia myself can freakin kiss my ass) my question is doea anybody familiar with any part of the tremec t-56 that would be causing this? I mean the power is there but the tranny wont turn it into torque. How big of a bill am I looking at here?

It seriously goes no where at all? I never heard of this in my life. Sounds so much like a belt slip or toasted clutch. Theres nothing inside your trans that can cause this that i know of. Maybe a broken input shaft or maybe someone turn the trans out and took everything out of it and put it back in empty...seriously.

Whats so hard about jackstands and fixing a trans?

Also since no one knows what your problem is no one can tell you how much it will be.

#1, I have no experience removing a transmission and im not about to start with my only means of transportation..#2 I dont have tools or a tranny jack or room to work, and finally the car gives a jerk like it wants to propel foward but then the rpms slip at 4000 and the car maintains its speed. The belt is tight and free of cracks..its not the belt. And I adjusted the clutch, which by the way is taking up fine and not giving me any trouble.

Your foot is broken. Or your car simply may make too much power for the clutch plate to handle.. The only thing in a manual transmission that could slip is the clutch. If it were actual transmission gearing issues you would be hearing pops and grinds. Since you said yourself it only happens under load it leads me to believe it is clutch related as well. If you already adjusted the clutch and it still feels the way it does odds are it needs replacing. The cost of having someone do it for you (including TOB and all parts) should run under $500 in most places. Good luck diagnosing if you feel this is not your issue.

Just because you adjust the clutch pedal doesn't mean it's not the clutch. Since you have no experience with removing a transmission, I doubt you have ever replaced a clutch and I believe you're lumping these two things into "the transmission". There's much more to a clutch than a simple pedal inside the car.

When I thought the clutch in my truck was slipping it was very easy to determine. I brought the bumper up to a tree, put it in 4th gear, and released the clutch. Sure enough, the truck kept running. If the clutch wasn't slipping, the engine would have died. You can try the same thing, but instead of a tree I suggest you get some good wheel chocks. Starting in a higher won't produce enough power to run them over and it'll kill the engine if your clutch is fine.

This is more than likley a failing clutch, just because it doesn't slip at all rmps and speeds and throttle doesn't mean its no bad, get in the car cruising bout 20mpg and put it in 4th or 5th gear and give it gas if it just revs up and slips the clutch is bad.

I agree with everyone else...Clutch.

There is absolutely no way any part of your transmission would slip unless you have an auto (and obviously you don't). I would think that if the input shaft were broken it wouldn't go into gear/it wouldn't move. Unless the splines were stripped off the shaft, but I'm sure a weird noise/chatter/vibration would come from the transmission if that were to happen.

Does the car smell like burning brakes/clutch after heavy driving?

+1 Sportchic, I've seen some stripped input shafts come of out muncie's and they always make noise like you said. OP, its clutch time.
