Can't decide
So I've been looking at a 96 cobra recently. It's really nice black exterior tan interior with a vortech and all the supporting mods along with a dyno tune. It made 420rwhp. Before I go and buy this I happened to run into a 2002 trans am ws6 for around the same price in my area. Over all what is the better of the two how they sit and modded? Also what would you guys choose and why? Thanks guys I've been buying and selling a lot of cars lately and I'm just trying to find a good one to stick with.

personally id go with the t/a because I've always loved the way those 4th gens look and the ls1 isnt bad either but the cobra would be sweet too so cant really go wrong with the two imo.

I forgot to mention the car will be my daily driver also. I go to the track atleast twice a month too so I want to be competitive, and I know either one will.

I'd say the TA. Stock for stock the TA would fuck up a 96 Cobra. My LS1 Camaro made 447rwhp through a 5000 stall with a STOCK MOTOR with just a cam/intake/exhaust, and was a blast to drive.

What about a 1999 trans am 6 speed all stock with 90k miles. There's one literally down the street from me for sale for 5600 obo. If I took that and just did mild bolt ons, would it be as reliable as the cobra and similar mpg you know for a daily driver or nah????

My non boosted stock "cam only" 447rwhp LS1 would make that Vortech 96 Cobra a shit sandwhich. Stock for stock, bolt on for bolt on, nitrous for nitrous, the LS1 outruns a five liter. My LS1 car when stone stock went 13.2 @ 108, can't say I've ever seen a stone stock 96 Cobra do that.

447 to the wheels through a stalled auto and stock heads? Damn man, that must have been a donkey dick cam. I made 402 through a six speed with untouched heads, but that was just a mid-moderate cam at best.

To the OP, the LS1 is the stronger of the two motors, that's for sure. That Cobra motor is just about tapped out at 420. You're done adding horsepower until you up the rods and pistons.
Yeah, a FI Cobra is going to beat a stock LS1 T/A (it should anyways) and it's going to take more than a few bolt-ons to get it to run with the lighter weight Mustang, but the LS1 has so much potential. There are guys on ls1tech.com making over 550 to the rear wheels without touching the internals. I was making 520 rhwp 580 rwtq with a 150 wet shot on my LS1 with never a problem one. Stock rotating assembly. And last I talked to the guy that bought the car from me, it's still running strong.
