Is this true?
Story: My buddy was talkin shit sayin that I'm stupid to choose a Cobra over a Roush. Like a LOT of shit talking telling peiple that I don't know a thing about cars and saying that a 2011 V6 could take me.
Numbers: 2003 SVT Cobra Convertible - 19,xxx miles at $21,xxx 390 Horsepower 390 Torque 6 Speed IRS Weight advantage 2006 Roush Stage 3 Coupe Supercharger - Unknown mileage at $26,000 415 Horsepower 385 Torque 5 Speed SRA Visual advantage Is it really that much power? If so then why do people buy Roush? |

#1) He is the one who doesn't know anything if he thinks a 2011 V6 could take an 03 Cobra...a stock cobra has a full second in the 1/4 compared to the V6.
#2) It is your car, your money, your choice! Who cares what he thinks? If HE likes the Roush better, then maybe he should buy it for himself. and also...people don't buy their cars just because of hp ratings. The Roush is heavier than the 03 Cobra anyways, so they both I'm sure are pretty even when it comes to 1/4 mile numbers. But the car that you want because you like it and you are attracted to it. Not because someone say a Roush is better than a Cobra. They are both specialty vehicles, anyways. |

The Roush Stage 3 is going to be pretty nasty because it already has all the work done to it including suspension. If you want a nice looking car that you can just hop in and go, than it's perfect. Sadly though, it's pretty much maxed out at that point. A Stage 3 Roush is still just a 3V SOHC motor that can't handle the power a Terminator Cobra can. Use the $5,000 you saved on the Cobra, buy a Whipple or Kenne Bell, run about 17# of boost, and shit all over the Roush.

No, he said a 2011 V6 could take my 2003 Mach 1.
I meant 'choosing' as 'preferring'. That's sad for that much money... I'd MUCH rather have a 2003 Cobra than a Roush. Especially with the price difference is could buy a top of the lineupgraded Supercharger KIT. |

Noone is going to have the same answer...as I said before, everyone has a different preference. Everyone isn't going to say...Oh for sure, it is a fact that every mustang owner would 'choose' the Roush over the Cobra. |

Well, stock for stock a new V6 isn't that far off from your Mach1. Same HP, similair weight. The Mach has a better torque curve though, which gives it it's advantage.
And as far as the Roush vs. Cobra goes, don't get me wrong, a Stage 3 Roush is an amazing car. I've seen some really nasty turbo charged ones. Plus, they are so very sexy. But just like any other Mustang GT (which is what the Roush basically is) it has a much lower ceiling to deal with when talking about horsepower compared to the 03-04 Cobras. And trust me, Cobras aren't without their own problems.

Tell your friend to get a clue! I own an 03 Mach 1 (yeah, I know, it's way not stock!), and a 2011 Mustang V6 auto w/Pony Package (wife's car), and there ain't no way on God's green earth that the '11 V6 is gonna beat even a stock Mach 1! It just doesn't have the necessary torque to get the job done. In fact, if you don't disable the advance trac system completely, the thing is pretty much a dog until up around 3500-4000 rpms! That's not to say that with a little tweaking it can't be a quick little bugger, just not out of the box. The ride and handling though are light years ahead of the old SN95 platform.

This particular Roush is absolutely beautiful. Yellow with black wheels, carbonfiber hood, black deals, and the brakes on the car brings out the wheels, but it is really just a borrowed longblock from the GT of that year? For $26,000 I'd much rather buy a bone stock Termi and buy a complete twin screw kit with the saved money. Sad.
Also, unless its opted for, the V6 only has 2.73:1 gears and only 260 torque. |
