1999 Cobra vs 2011/12 GT
I have an opportunity to get a new Mustang GT 5.0, I am in the Military and currently deployed overseas. They have a progam to purchase a new car factory direct from Ford. The purchase price for a base model GT is $26,000 for me. With me saving my money from my deployment and selling my 99 Cobra, I should have just enough to purchase it in full. I might have to finance a few thousand which is not a problem. My question is, the money I save and just put it into my car now or get a brand new car at a really good price? Thanks for the input.
Also to take into consideration, here is a list of my mods now. -K&N cold air intake -A/C Eliminator pulley kit -UPR Underdrive pulley kit -BBK Twin 62mm throttle body -Ford Racing shorty headers -Bassani X-pipe w/ Hi-Flow cats and o2 sensor MIL eliminators -Magnaflow Magnapack exhaust with black powdercoated tips -SCT SF3/X3 Tuner w/ custom tune -Ford Racing 4.10 rear gears -8.8 Solid Rear Axle swap w/ rear cobra brake adapters -EBC Front & Rear Ultimax slotted rotors and EBC Front & Rear Red stuff pads -Tokico HP shocks/struts -Eibach Sportline lowering springs -03/04 Carbon fiber cobra hood -03/04 Cobra front bumper w/ fog lights & bezels and chin spoiler -01 Cobra rear bumper w/ "COBRA" insert -Shorty antenna -Front grill cobra emblem -10th Anniversary 17" Cobra rims (Front 17x9 / Rear 17x10.5) -Sumitomo tires (Front 275/40/17 - Rear 315/35/17) -Kenwood Excellon KDC-X693 CD/MP3 Receiver w/ iPod adapter and Kicker remote subwoofer dial -Two 10" Kicker Comp subwoofers in custom box -Kicker zx300.1 amplifier -5% Limo tint all around |

that is a good price for the new 5.0, but with all that work done to the car already it would be hard for me to part with it. especially a cobra put some more motor work on your cobra and it will be more of a beast lol. either way to great cars to build on

New 5.0 no doubt. Guys with close to full bolt-ons are getting in the 430-440rwhp range I believe. And Ford is going to be selling the Boss Intake if you want to do an intake swap. Or you could just order a new Boss. Rumor has it they are going to be going for around $36 and who knows what kind of a deal you can get on it. 440 crank HP. It has a fully adjustable suspension stock, more aggressive cams than the GT, headwork, and obviously the better intake like I said above. Slap some bolt-ons on that car and you should see upwards of 450/60rwhp N/A.

cobra99svt, what is your definition of "new ammenities". You delted your A/C in your current car and im assuming still have power everything, along with cruise and a fully functional radio, so i guess what im saying is if youre looking at buying a sports car for the bells and whistles then youre buying it for the wrong reason. I dont mean to be a dick so please dont be offended. You can sell your car and get a new GT which in reality would be a good DD with some bolt ons here and there, they are a hell of a lot quiter and smoother going down the road then the SN95 platform, both the original (my body style) and the New Edge. But If you ever decide to get real serious with power, its going to be more cost effective to extract that power from your current car, rather than making a car payment and trying to buy mods. Sorry for the ramble, my 2 cents is what will you enjoy more down the road, a well built, modded, powerful cobra, or a low mileage, new, GT.

Damn you have such a sick Cobra right now, but yeah you are probably right about all the new stuff, although at a base model im not sure what your getting. I saw a new 5.0 base model, the only options were 3.73 gears and brembo brake upgrade. that would be the one to get

5.0! It's a new car, more power, more potential and a better drive. It's definitely an upgrade no matter what you have done to your 99.

Anything short of a supercharger on the Cobra is less power than the 5.0 stock. And even then the 5.0's power with bolt-ons is the breaking point of the Cobra's shortblock.

I'm sure the 5.0 tops your cobra ib every category except sound and sentimentality... I'd go 5.0

If I could afford to trade my Cobra in on one, I would.

I'm very surprised to see so many Cobra owners suggest a new 5.0. Did I miss something?

If it's not a 03/04 the 5.0 is the next best thing without a blower.
