Haha

the older castings had bad water flow through them

newer 03's and all 04's are good to go.

a valveguide wouldn't fall off unless it cracked into pieces.

i would double check the crank and rods to make sure they are not bent/out of spec; just in case he is right about something dropping into the combustion chamber.

Well if a guide has excessive wear it could wind up dropping the valve thats what I expected to find. The #4 piston had a broken skirt. He told me the drivers head was already replaced for the guidewear issue. I tore down the left side head and found no issue the rods all seem ok but going to have them checked out at the machine shop anyway. I paid 200 bucks for the termi long block because he thought it was completely destroyed, and I now have a good set of heads and rods for when i build my 99.

Hi guys - is there a thread somewhere that shows how you could do an engine swap on a 01 Cobra and bolt in a 03/04 setup? Not looking at anything too modified just yet, but thinking of buying/swapping a setup. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

That seems like an awful lot of effort for very little change, but who am I to judge?

Check out the eaton swap thread. They swap an eaton setup onto an 01 Cobra, but you can use it for information you'll need. If you do use a 03/04 liftout, all you'll have to sweat is hooking up the intercooler arrangement, maybe some power steering lines. You could conceivably keep the same transmission and fuel system so there would be no issues there. There may be a few kinks in the way of splicing your harness for the COP's, alternator, IAT sensor if you keep your harness. If not it's all plug and play.

Hate to bring up an old thread-

But here's the update. Since that one in Georgia I haven't been able to locate a single one, despite prowling multiple forums, classifieds, and having a dealer scouting multiple auctions.

What I have seen is a number of WTB: wrecked Cobra threads, where guys just part them out. They end up buying a dozen of them throughout the thread. It angers me terribly. All I need is one, and I've got the cash...

But enough of my angry rant. Bottom line is that if this crap keeps up, I'm going to be forced to go another route. For less than it'd be for the 03/04 Cobra motor with that damned accessory drive, I could go with a forged 4.6/5.4 DOHC, and just run a turbo already. No longer a terminator clone, not the same low end torque, but I guess I'll have to settle for the power for less. Oh well.

...or just say to hell with it all and instead of the brand new diesel Ram, get a new Mustang GT. Either way, these wrecks are elusive.

Not quite as easy as a 4.6 or 5.4 modular motor but...

...find me a decent price on a forged one and I will.

...provided my car doesn't burst into flame from trying to put its archrival powerplant in it.

I shall not anger the gods.

Instead here's what I'm going with if I continue to have no damn luck with the wreck/Eaton swap.

Plan B: on3 76mm turbo kit. Should be good for 550hp easy, and comparitively cheap. I know a guy who was running a 97 Cobra with a similar setup who was pushing out 780rwhp.

Plan C(omplete and total f*cking overkill): Switching to 5.4L DOHC forged, custom fabricate a twin 65mm turbo setup. It'll give me a chance to hone those TIG skills, and put down absolutely obscene numbers. I'm sure the Lord Ford would approve of this.

For both I'll have to check and see if I can get a company discount on Holset turbochargers. I think a Holset VGT would be phenomenal.
