Looking for some answers

ok i have a 1996 cobra, i blew the headgaskets a while ago and decided i was gonna pull the motor out to replace the headgaskets and put some headstuds in while i was there so hopefully it does not happen again. since i am doing all of this in my driveway with the car on jackstands pulling the transmission out was.. difficult. my question is for when the time comes to put everything back in the car is it possible to connect the transmission to the motor and slide everything in at once or would i have to put the motor in and then the transmission. i do have a engine crane with an engine angler so i dont think angling the two will be a problem. i wanted to know to see if i can make my life a little easier and get the cobra back on the road so i can keep showing them hondas what a real car is.

dunno how difficult it would be to pull it out with trans still attached, i never seen a point in it. personally i drop out the front suspension, lower engine and trans together, take trans and headers off (makes access to everything a breeze), and either lift engine striat up and out or roll it out from under car (engine dolly)

I would advise bolting the engine and tranny together, and remove your k member along with the suspension, and bolt the engine down to that. Once you have that done take the rear end of the car off the jack stands to raise the front up higher. Slide the engine in below the car and use the engine lift to raise it up. Bolt the k member back in and plug in some lines/wires and you should be good. This is how i did it for my engine swap. Heres a link of photos when i put the engine back in.

Not everyone has the capability to lift the car high enough to drop the engin on the K. You can pull the engine with the trans attached and even with long tubes still installed.

Forget the head studs, they aren't needed unless you're pushing over 20psi of boost.

a small set of stands will allow plenty of room to drop the k, engine, and trans. that will allow to have access to everything easy, and able to lift strait up and out of the engine compartment. not everyone has capability to lift car high enough to pull engine out from the bottom. i have done it with a smaller set of acdelco stands from the parts house a couple times.

if you pull it "up" you cannot pull the engine/trans together.

easy to remove and easy to install motor w/trans (stock), for longtubes you will have to drop the k-member a couple of inches to install motor w/trans and get the motor extremely vertical. and i suggest to remove/install motor w/trans than installing trans after, pain to get those top trani bolts threaded in.

I was able to drop it out the bottom no problem with a standard set of jack stands. Also you can pull the tranny with it also. When you raise it up the tranny will fall right into place once you get the k member bolted in.

not too big of a deal to get to top trans bolts as long as you have the stuff to do it with.

I think it all depends on if you can get the front of the car high enough to angle the tranny and motor back into the car.
