Some mechanic imput
ok guys ima try to expalin quickly
my 2000 lighting had a knocking/tappin noise coming from passanger side i took it to a friend of mine who works for a ford dealership as a mechanic, well we say its the lifters so he buys them all for me with his great discount. ok so he removes the passanger side valve cover and he tells me rite from the start the timing chain is loose and now he suspects the timing belt tensioner to be bad. he replaced all the lifters on the passanger side just to make sure it aint that but after replacing them noise is still there. ok so now he wants to replace tensioners and guides and followers. my question to u guys is can fautly tensioners and loose timing chain cause this noise?

hard to say but that would be worth looking at. Trouble shooting noises like that can be a bitch and hard to pin down. Sounds like it coud be a possibility though

yea because he said if it was a rod u would here it all the time and loud on accerleration...and my noise is loudest on deceleration, one think is for sure it wasnt lifters : (

I know where the lifters are guy..but he said they were all replaced so I was asking if the noise that's still going on is from the top or bottom end.

If the chain was loose it would most likely make the noise all the time not just on decel. Try to narrow it down with a stethoscope.

well yea they are lash adjusters....well anyway if i put my ear like were the wheel well is at i can here it a lil louder...
and the noise is on all the time just louder on decel, while cruisin on freeway i can here it unless i give it gas i cant really here but if i keep the gas at a certain position i can hear it.
