Grinding in 4th gear... Bad synchros?

Today, my car started grinding in 4th gear, I can't even put it in gear without it scratching so bad at me. Wondering what could be the problem? All the other gears and reverse work just fine. Was thinking that it might be a bad synchro. About how much will that cost to replace?

Any advice?

If its not popping out of gear you can most likely get away with just replacing the blocker ring on the input shaft, if it pops out the entire syncro assembly and the input shaft will probably need to be replaced.

Roger it doesn't pop out, but it grinds so bad.. So I just go straight to 5th gear or back to 3rd. How much to replace the blocker ring on the input shaft?

I have never had a t-45 apart which is what im assuming ur working with. Some transmissions you have to completely disassemble to get at the input shaft and some are a 10 min job just taking the front bearing cap off. A blocker ring usually ranges 10-100 bucks depending what its made out of. They are around 70 a piece in the 3650 but have a fiber insert so should be cheaper for yours. For now keep avoiding 4th like your doing so you dont chew up the teeth on the syncro sleeve and the input shaft.

The blocker ring is part of the syncronizer assembly and is usually all you have to replace unless the surface it grabs is worn on the gear. I would say a couple hundred for the whole syncronizer assembly but i have no experience with this transmission. Your fluid is ok and full? clutch adjusted correctly?

I could be wrong, but dont T45s have weak shift forks that bend easily? you could just have a bent shift fork that doesn't put it in 4th all the way. I am probably wrong though...

Yes, T-45's are known for bent shift forks.

More than likely not a shift fork if its not popping out of gear, if the shift fork is bent most of the time the sleeve wont slide all the way over the gear and they pop out.
