Engine Oil in Cooling System
So I was driving down the freeway and the oil pressure dropped for half a second and went back up, it kept doing this so I thought the oil pressure sensor was going bad. When I checked it I found no oil in the engine and the cooling system was overflowing. I put some oil and turned it on just to make sure the engine was still working, it made no noise so that's good.
The oil cooler price is $420, 307 my price and still too expensive. Do you guys know what other engine might have the same oil cooler? An expedition or navigator maybe? By the way is a 1998 Cobra engine. Thanks |

98 Cobra should be similar to the 98 Lincoln MKVIII. You should be able to pick one up from a junkyard easy. The Lincoln Aviator, and Mercury Marauder might also be similar. You might even be able to get away with the regular 2v Mustang one. I think the only 4.6 that had a different oil cooler was the 03/04 Cobra due to the alternator relocation, and possibly the Lincoln Continental, but that was FWD. But don't quote me on it. Have a parts retailer cross reference part numbers.
Also you can only hope its the oil cooler. Might want to check your head gaskets. While possible, I've never seen an oil cooler fail, and that is one of the #1 signs of a blown head gasket.

+1 on checking head gaskets, burning all your oil and sending exhaust gases into your coolant channels causing the coolant to overflow filling it up with air. do a compression check on each cylinder.
i really hope that it is your oil cooler. good luck! |

But the oil didn't burn, there was no smoke coming out of the tailpipe. Also there was no gases in the cooling system, it was just coolant mixed with engine oil and it overflowed due to the oil pump sending the oil to the cooling system.
I know it is a possibility to have a blown head gasket, but it all seems like the oil cooler failed. |
