98 Cobra trans won't go into gear
Just as the title says, my roommate has a 98 cobra, manual trans, that he bought all stock and has only done exhaust and springs to it. The problem is the shifter won't go between gears left/ right, or into the one's it is in line with. We took the shifter out, and it won't move any more using a ratchet handle for leverage. Any ideas what it might be?

sounds like the shifter fork/rod take the top of of the transmission off. there should be a roll pin in the piece that the shifter sits in get a punch and knock that down. once you have it out there will be a ball and a spring under the handle.Once you do that you should be able to remove the nose and top of the tranny .Then visually inspect the shift forks and rod for cracks or bends.Dont scrap the tranny for a 35 dsollar fix...people do that everyday ands it sickens me!!!!!!!!

ohhh yeah you have to drop it....its not that bad but if you have never been into a tranny it can be scary at first but, imo its alot easier to rebuild a standard transmission than a engine. Just checking the shift forks is pretty easy look online for write ups on it they should be all over the place. One of the t-5s in a fox I own was sold to me for $1000 because the tranny was bad (it was stuck in neutral) when we opened it up the shifter rod was rusted so bad it wouldent move at all and that was it replace the rod and it was done.My uncle has 96 v6 and it would not go into first or, second it was the shift fork. Then again you never know what you will find once you get in there. Oh btw you will want the transmission in neutral to remove the roll pin from the shift rod.

And if your friend cant figure it out, he should get rid of that t45 and throw a TKO in it( but throw away that shifter they come with and get a good steeda/pro 5.0)....good luck!
