Driveline shudder/chatter while downshifting
5k miles ago i had these parts professionally installed into my 97 cobra. All parts are ford racing except for the energy suspension mounts.
Billet Steel Flywheel 2003 Cobra 11 inch pressure plate and clutch disc pilot bearing and throw out bearing heavy duty fork adjustable clutch cable w/ firewall adjuster aluminum cable quadrant polyurethane motor mounts and trans mount heavy duty aluminum driveshaft since this installation, everything works perfectly. i love the clutch, the parts, everything. the only problem i have is the car shudders/vibrates/chatters, whatever you want to call it, when i downshift. if i am in 4th gear, i put the car in 3rd, as the clutch is engaging, it shudders, same from 3rd to 2nd. if i am going slow enough in the gear, the rpms are low, it wont really do it, and if i am fast in the gear and rpms are high, it wont really do it, only in the broad mid range. the tech who installed all of this said he though the new driveshaft was around an inch too long. could this cause the problem? the driveline compressing during downshift and the yolk bangin in the trans tail? rpms low enough, doesnt bang, rpms high enough, presses full against tail, mid range, bangin ? what do you guys think because i cant think of anything else... i appreciate any insight.. |

Any play in your rearend? that will sometime cause a chatter issue like your describing

Those poly mounts could be letting vibration through that you didnt feel before

or you might try lettin the clutch out slower than you are used to,

could be the mounts but i dont think so...its not like a vibration, its a shudder/chatter..similar to a torque converter shudder..also, in a stop n go situation, like starting to go and having to stop, sometimes ill get a pop, sometimes on the go, sometimes on the stop..which also makes me think its the driveshaft's in and out motion..only thing i can do really to diagnose if its the shaft is to put my stock one back in and see..thanks for the replies! hey, 315's will fit on 10.5 cobras right?
