NA 4 valve cam question

Okay, so theres a guy on here with some rediculous cams in his Mystichrome 2004 convertible, and I found him on YouTube under 'cammed the fuck out cobra' or something like that. I don't know how to post a YouTube video through my phone, but if anyone knows who I'm talking about then here's my question:

I'm going to the NMRA finals tomorrow and if I can find a Teksid or WAP block im gonna jump on it, but i want to go NA. How much compression and how much money would it take to have the kind of overlap/duration/lobe/sex sound coming from a 4V?

The comp cams sound... sloppy... compared the the Termi. Or maybe its just audio quality.

That guy on youtube is a MORON. He was trying to tell me that he has stage 10's lmfao and then telling me that there is no difference between NA cams and Blower cams and that there are no overlap issues on boosted setups and that is just a scam that cam manufacturers practice lmfao. What a tool. Btw, I have Comp Stage 3 106460's and here is my idle video:

First, the cams need to be spec'd for the RPM range for which the engine will be operating. The guy in the second video dropped Comp 106400s into a stock longblock car and the result was a lopey idle, piss poor mid-range and decent upper rpm hp, but a lot of that hp can be attributed to his stock rearend gears.

You need to figure out what compression you wanna run and the RPM range you want live in. Once that is done you can work out the cams and intake that will work best.

You can buy cams for sound, but you will end up very unhappy in the end.

I am very happy with the sound of my cams and with their performance. I had some Mild Stage 1 Sean Hyland Regrinds, but the Stage 3 Comp cams out perform them throughout the whole RPM range. And they sound BADASS!

Boost provided by a pd blower has a way of covering a cams shortcomings.

I'm talking spcically about n/a combos as poor cam selection results in a terrible power curve.

Stroked and high compression would be my route. I'll be using my 03 Mach 1 heads. Most rods and piston hold out to 8,000 rpms before they get pricey, right? So then I guess something that will peak at 7,750. I don't need much low end because I'll probably go with steep gears and keep the 3650. I guess ported intake and throttle body and a new fuel system and new cams and valvetrain. I'm hoping for 450 to the wheels if that's reasonable.

That 3650 wont like those 7700rpm shifts. Plus you will need to either spend a pile of cash on an ems or go woth a distributor setup to spin that engine so high. 450whp is very hard to do even with a stroked 4.6. Gl.

Engine management system... our cars computer can't control spark after 7200 rpm well. Gl means good luck. Very basic thing lol. Lol means laughing out loud.

There are ways to get around the RPM issue with the 99/01 and 03/04 computers. 96-98 computers don't have any problems spinning that high.

A built 3650 will shift at high RPMs. I spec'd some cams for a guy that shifted his pro-motion built 3650 at 8k, he made 460 with an n/a 4.6.

450 can easily be made with a stroker or a big bore.

i have a promotion built 3650 and i cant imagine how terrible it will be to shift at 8000 rpm. i have enough trouble fighting the stupid thing at 7k. and a stoke 281 to a 5.0 or 5.1 is not easily made to get 450 whp.. if you get a big bore then you could have a 5.8 stroker. you will probably spend more money getting 450whp on a n/a 302 than just sticking a blower or turbo setup on it.

It is easy. The right intake manifold and the right cams make it possible. I can get 450 with a 281ci, 11.5:1 combo without breaking a sweat.

A 4.6 based big bore stroker is a 5.3L, a big bore 5.4 is a 5.8L.

if you were building a race car then yeah i guess that you could have 450whp "easy" out of a 4.6... good luck driving that thing in the city.

The combo is very streetable, idles at 900, burns 93 octane, 11.5:1CR (flat tops), 236deg cams, FR500 intake, 04 heads.

I can get 380 out of a stock longblock Mach engine, 70 more hp isn't that hard with a built motor.

Here's a little 281 combo with some mild cams:
