TR6060 swap possible?

For project Secondhand Snake I was originally planning on swapping in a 03/04 Cobra T56 transmission. But after a little investigation it seems the TR6060 uses the same housing as the T56, is much stronger, and believe it or not, I've seen a few cheaper than T56's.

I know it will bolt up to a 4.6L modular. That's a given. It will probably use the same crossmember as the T56. Input spline is different, but I'd probably be getting a new clutch anyways.

Are there any catches I'm missing? I know the Viper version uses a hydraulic clutch and has no VSS on it. The other sticking point is whether the shifter will line up. I know that the Chevy/Dodge T56's can't be used in the Cobra because the shifter's won't line up. Is this also true on the TR6060? Does the TR6060 shifter from the GT500 even line up in the Cobra? I had seen a writeup on Corral from someone who did it into an SN95 and he made no mention of shifter location.

Looks like the shifter is in a little different place, where you finding a 6060 cheaper? They seem to be about a grand higher.

Well there goes my plan. I don't quite feel like hacking up my console.

Also I think my problem may be I'm seeing expensive T-56's, rather than "cheap" TR-6060's. It just sucks that you have to use the much rarer and more expensive Cobra T-56's, when the the Chevy models are plentiful and cheap.

I was looking into going with the viper t-56, can get them for around 1500 and the cobra bellhousing for about 200, but how does the clutch lever work out? Use car-part.com really helps out tracking down parts in local salvage yards.

The actual Viper T-56, or the Ford specific Viper-spec one? I thought you couldn't use the Dodge T-56's due to the same shifter location issues you'd have with trying to make a Chevy T-56 work. If not I'd be pretty happy that I could snag a Viper T-56 for $1500.

I havnt done enough research, I thought you just had to change the bellhousing and different yoke and driveshaft. I will look into it further let me know what you find because im interested in going with a 6 speed aswell even if i have to sell my eaton setup to afford it.

I'm just going by what I've seen. And we all know how accurate the internet is.

If you can in fact make other T56's work in the Ford application, that would be phenomenal, seeing as Chevy/Dodge ones go for $1500, and the Cobra ones are $2300 or so.

i looked into doing the same swap, a t6060 but i thnk the problem that i read about was that the speedo hookup wouldn' t work or something like that. i bought a magnum instead.

Yeah, on the Viper TR6060's there's no VSS. You can remedy that by buying the ring for it and putting it on the shaft, and the boss for the sensor is there, you just need to drill and tap it.

The swap is entirely possible, but you'll have to install the VSS for the Viper version, and it looks like hack up your console to accomodate the shifter.

I have a feeling I'll have to go with just a T-56 of some sort.
