Watch out for the notorious head tick. These motors run hot and if they don't get sufficient coolant flow to cylinders 7-8, the valve guides wear out making a nasty ticking noise. If left unchecked it can result in melting pistons. Look to see if the guy has a cooling mod installed on the back of the cylinder heads to prevent such a thing.

Read this section of the FAQ, and then the whole doc. Find a local Cobra owner that has done a bunch of mods, meaning they know the cars. Buy him bbq or beers to go check out a car or two with you and give advice.

Either that or he has deep pockets to pay someone to do mods for him.

I'm kidding, but definitely someone who knows his stuff. I have a friend who's a mechanic that I took to look over a car and he was absolutely no help.

Sidenote: There's also the infamous "Cobra clunk." For some inexplicable reason, they're prone to getting a clunk from the rear end on shifts. Some speculate it's in large part due to worn bushings in the IRS, nothing new poly ones won't solve. Lots of theories on exactly what it's from. Almost all of them do it though, and it's not harmful, just a nuisance.
